MFSW retrofit

Featured Replies

@Jonboy984 just fyi, i retro fitted a mfsw on my 2012 vRS, already had maxidot so both sides of the wheel worked..  but once you've got the wheel buttons working on the rhs you can't also have the stalk working, so you end up with redundant buttons on the end of the stalk.  Not a problem but if you scan the car it'll show an fault.  As mine was still under warranty i didn't want the fault showing so i replaced the stalkS (anoyingly they are in one piece so you have to replace the whole lot) with the one that does not have the mfd buttons on the end.

Thanks for the advice Rob.

I'm really indecisive about maxidot at the moment.

Yes I'd love maxidot to complete the MFSW but then I would probably fit a bluetooth module and a shark fin aerial at the same time but as I plan to get back in to a dsg next April, I would only see the benefit for the 12 months or so.

Decisions decisions!

Thanks Karl, he pm'd me, in short, £225 delivered from Poland.

That's a damned good price to be fair, they're like gold dust :)

Totally agree, that's what's making the decision even harder!

I have now decided not to bother with a maxidot retrofit however an unexpected bonus of retrofitting a bluetooth module is the previously non functioning right side of the MFSW now partially works in that the phone button will answer and terminate phone calls!

Slightly less frustrating than none working then!

I can just about learn to live with it!

I have a question. Car: Octavia 2FL, MY 2012
Can I replace my 5K0-953-569-C for a used 5K0-953-569-H which came from a Passat, 2012? Both controllers produced in 2012. The original (C): HW15 SW 140, new (H): HW14, SW140.
The "new" steering wheel is like this:

Thanks for any reply.

Thanks! Yes, I've read that already. But as if I read it here in an other topic (I can' find it :/ ), they are not always interchangeable between two different car, regardless of the VAG and hw/sw numbers.  Maybe the stored steering characteristics is the reason, I think.
As I remember, Eddie-NL said something about it, but I can't find his post.

Ahm, ok, I mixed up. The stored steering characteristics is a problem for the steering assist, not here.

you have one ending 569 so as long as you buy one ending 569 it will be ok

Only thing is not to buy one from a passat as that doesn't have an ignition switch

569E

569H

569L

569AL

are ok for the Octavia 2 FL

Thank you, everything is clear now.

Ahm, sorry, but one more question: how can I check or set the center position if the controller comes without the fastening pins and not secured with a tape or something?
Do I have to make the same turn - left and right - between the two ends?
I don't know how much I can trust the seller. :/

on a 569 there is no mark for the centre point

rotate it till you meet resistance, then count each rotation in the other direction till you meet resistance.

then half the rotations will be the centre point

That's what I meant. Thanks for your time!
Then I just have to do it. :)

There is some uncertainty here. :) Is there something I did not think about?
Now I got a 5K0-953-569-H, 3-spoke MFSW and a 3T0 971 584 cable loom (I still have to make the latter from an old cable) .
The car has cruise control, normal "dumb" cluster with b.computer (buttons on the right stalk), RNS510 Columbus+BT. Coding is no problem.
Do I have to change the right stalk to a normal, without buttons?
Or what problem I can face if I have a non-maxi dot cluster?
Thanks.

You won't have full functions on right side of MFSW

on a VW mfsw it can work trip computer even in non maxidot

Skoda mfsw can't control trip computer in non maxidot

leave your stalk to control trip computer

The nice vRS wheel arrived today, but with two unexpected bonus DSG-paddles.
Is this a problem or can I disconnect and ignore them?
I think, there is no cover plate which fits in their place, right?
edit:

Ok, I found dilksie's post about it.

I replaced the wheel (thanks for the support!) and a few days ago also my old cluster with a MaxiDot and - of course :) - I have a few new question:
I have not LIGHTS & VISION menu. Can I enable it somehow? (No light sensor installed, CH and cornering lights enabled via VCDS. )
And I see a "Personalisation active" setting at the address 17, ( Instruments), byte 2, bit 0 (or 1).  What can that be?
Thanks.
