  • Well Today was the day.   Nervously i awoke earlier that usual at 2:30 AM (ish) couldnt get back to sleep so wrote a to do list. Pretty detailed one too   Drove to london and set about work around

  • I just love this car stunningly beautiful lines. Interior is a very nice place to be ohh and that V6 engine is melodic. Unfortunately Taylor is a self confessed spanner man and isn't really interested

  • And so it begins...

I still plan on coming to combe. Perhaps in a shagged out fgf hippo. All depends

Get Richard to leave the Yeti at home and bring the 16V and have it out on track finally? :D

Gutted about the Alfa, at least there's always next time. No point driving a car that isn't spot on hard and causing more issues.

This makes me sad :(

A real shame. Hopefully it won't take you long to get it fighting fit

You'll get it sorted... these things just have a habit of biting you in the arse at the last minute.

Bit of an update, been trying to get the laptop to connect to the car today.

Once ive got that, i can get the ABS to bleed, and more importantly find the source of the EML light (flashes above 3500 rpm)

Reading online it could be an ecu/engine ground but on the later models they bolted the ECU directly onto the engine with a small ground lead. mine being an earlier model i didnt think had this (ECU is definitely in the cabin)

but after combe yesterday, i some how came across this

Interesting read....

edit: i Popped the bonnet... 2 seconds later "Oh Taylor you f*****g *** $*&!""   Tightened one 10mm nut holding a ground lead in place. Started it up and No miss fire :D

Simple things!

See you and it at How Fast then Taylor?

LOL Taylor, easily done mate. I'm just glad it's all sorted!

Just need to drop the subframe and refit it so the heat shields are out of the way.

Rear tyres and tracking

bleed brakes. May need to source a replacement rear caliper as the bleed nipple is circular

Molegrips to remove old one and just get a new bleed nipple to put in :!

Bleed it through the pipe coupling, will be ok on the rears, they don't do much anyway.          See you in Bedford

Ebay is the answer :) two have been promptly ordered. expected to be here Tuesday.

Along with a new VAG/KKL cable.

I have a cheap ebay one which i bought about two years ago. it worked with my Alfa 156, but it doesnt with the GTV. The GTV also came with a cable but that looks rough and hasnt worked either :/

It could be many things. Laptop, Drivers, Cable, or the Car, or the ECU's individually.

Problem is with VAG cars you have a K Line controller, that is the box you actually communicate with when using VCDS which then communicates with the other modules. Fiat and therefore Alfa, Chrysler and Lancia do it differently

Pin 7 of the OBD2 port (standard K-line on most kit) - ECU

Pin 3 - Airbag

Pin 1 - ABS

Pin 9 - Dash/Climate Control

So you need to switch/solder wires to communicate between each. Even then MultiECUScan (Fiat version of VCDS) cannot pickup any ECU's no matter which lead/configuration is used. Testing them shows poor latency's too which wont help.

So ive bitten the bullet to try and get a cable this week. Hopefully it will work. or ive just wasted £20 on a third cable.

Even so my aim was to bleed the ABS then re-bleed the brakes. So with a few safe emergency stops to trigger the ABS on thursday, i hope its forced the air out to the calipers. This week ill get it up on stands and rebleed the brakes hopefully with some success this time!

I am determined to have it ready for bedford this weekend, so i may have to book a last minute day off work to get it done.

I do hope it's ready for Bedford. Will try and get some photos of it too.

New tyres ordered today. I dont want to burn up a new set on track so ill only fit the new rears so that it Is safe and legal.

So i use the old fronts, new rears.

Tracking is booked for thursday

In the mean time some parts have been ordered

Cars jacked up and ready for my work tomorrow afternoon/evening

Right progress!

Subframe dropped. Heatshield re attached. Job done..

Except for when a helper damaged a thread on a new nut and bolt. the new one i waited 3 days for... which if i order tomorrow would be friday. Meaning that i would miss the tracking and tyre fitting with mates rates.

So out of the frying pan into thr flames. well sort of.

Going to call a firm in Bearstead called MBE fasteners. They may have the bolt i need.

M10x65mm bolt. 30mm shank followed by 30mm of thread. 5mm of taper to a point.

Looks like A fine pitch around 1.25mm too

Steel grade R10? Does have the normal 8.8/10.9/12.3 markings so im unsure of strength

Sigh

Oh well it happens. Just gotta hope i can source one fast!

I hold my hands up, I done a boo boo!

Anyway, at least that damn heatsheild and subframe won't have to come off again........

Haha i didnt want to drop you in it Danny! :D

Im going to try and resolve this tomorrow. Otherwise ill be booking a day off just to get one bolt fitted which is less than desirable!

Next time we meet, lunch or dinner on me ;)

But, £12.99 for a nut and bolt......... A nut, and bolt, that costs effing £12.99!!!!! Daylight robbery!

Supposedly Dealers are allowed to give upto a 60% discount, but they have to have Head office in Italy approve it, and even then they dont tend to do it on such a small/cheap (relatively speaking) Bolt and Nyloc Nut, also being a special order from the factory. Sooooo.. i doubt they would haha.

Glad it's coming along Taylor, be great to see it driving once again at full power. :D

Ive been calling around this morning.

Came to the conclusion that the bolt isnt a standard off the shelf bolt

So i called a few alfa specialist and one told me if i declare to Alfa its a VOR (Vehicle Off Road) then they can order it overnight.

So two ordered (one spare) for tomorrow morning. So im booking half day tomorrow!

Gotta get it done tomorrow without a hitch other wise im not going to be able to get it done in time.

I use MBE Taylor, great company, really helpful, have most things, sounds a bit too unique for them though,. all the best with it.
