Mk1 Fabia VRS Thrust bearing noise - anything to be worried about?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2005 mk1 fabia vrs to be a motorway workhorse due to a recent change in jobs that means I have just shy of 100 miles per day communte. The car runs like clockwork but there is a rumble from the thrust bearing that you can hear when the car is idling and as soon as I dip the clutch the noise goes away. I can also hear it it I am crawling in traffic at say anything up to 10 mph in 1st & 2nd gear. The car changes gear fine & the clutch is not slipping or grating in any gear.

From what I can tell from all the receipts that came with the car it is still on it's original clutch and it now has 110k on it.

Do I need to be concerned or just keep driving?

Cheers

Martin

More likely the flywheel on its way out

Mine is 2006, 104k and does the same. I bought it with 99k on the clock and it has not got any worse. It is your input shaft bearing in your gearbox. No need to worry unless it gets ridiculously loud, it is just a bearing that is getting/got worn. You could get it replaced but its a major job requiring an immense amount of labour costs, in that instance you may as well get a new clutch/ DMF while you are there for labour cost efficiency.

Don't worry about it
