Engine Oil for my vRS

Featured Replies

So I thought I better buy some for oil for top ups. I went into a Halfords and I was sure the oil had to meet VW505.01. Looking on the back of the bottles  they had on the shelf I found Castrol Edge FST Turbo Diesel 5W-40 Fully Synthetic. It says it meets VW505.01 but when I was at the desk they said I needed a different one but on the back of that bottle it had VW502 something. The guy said I should go on what my manual said so I bought the VW505.01 one..

Is this going to be ok to put into a PD engine?

I have spent a lot recently on my car, so I can't afford to **** this up :D

How much did they sting you. I use a brand called xflow fully synthetic 5w40 for pd engines cost 26 from local motor factors.

Ive never noticed any difference in any other much more expensive products.aslong as you use the 5w40 fully synthetic its fine.

As long as the oil you use is new with the spec VW505.01 it can be any brand/ or non-brand you choose.. ( I do, plus new oil filter of course)..

I found the same when I went in a few months back, I ignored their system as it didn't look right. So i used my phone to search and confirm on here I'd got the right one, which is also cheaper then the one they state I believe, lol

I use the castrol edge fst turbo diesel, it is 505.01 and its the right one to use.

Try and avoid halfords, i always get mine from eurocarparts when they have a big sale on.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I paid like £18 for it. Glad I got the right one!

just go opie, put reg in.. buy cheapest  oil and filter change every 6 months, 100% better than using £40 and changing every 12 months.
