vRS front fog lights bulbs - what are they?

Featured Replies

Good Day All

Can anyone tell me what the front fog lights bulbs they are? The plan is to replace them with LED's. Any advice welcomed. Will I need to fit resistors/ code via VCS or plug n play?

Many thanks

Steve

If you do a search you will find many posts on this subject.

You remove the fog lights from the front (outside of th engine bay) to get at them.

Loads of threads about replacing them with LED's on here, use the search, its your friend in need.

Very Odd size H16

H8 fit if you modify the locating lugs/pins

Xpower is your man I believe, he'll know as I think he fitted modified H8's

On the Vrs I think the only way to change the bulb is to remove the Black plastic trim under the fogs  then get your hand in or remove the under tray .

Don't think the fogs come out forwards

Ops, mines not a vRS so they maybe different but, I removed the plastic section next to the fog light inwards towards the centre of the grill then, you unscrew 2 or 3 retaining screws holding the fog light in and it turns forward and out of the hinges on the outer side of the fog light.  Either car, its should be in the manual.

If you have OCD like me, you'll find the incandescent side light still shows a faint hue of yellow once you've done the fogs, on mine we had to alter the brightness of the side lights on mine but, how you get over it on the vRS I'm not sure.  Black_Sheep helped me with mine and I know was working on his which is a vRS and therefore, needs a different fix, hopefully he can help it was earlier this month I last saw him so, I'm not sure whether he has this fix as yet.

Why are there two bulbs in the fog lights ?

Don't really know, I have cornering fogs and have both lit. There is an option only to have the outer bulbs lit for cornering fogs ( VCDS )

They are H16 if you're buying halogen. If you are going to LED then I brought some H8's and just trimmed 2 of the lugs slightly with a dremel. Just do it to match the lug size of the h16's that are standard. They won't need resistors just coding the VCDS will be fine.

On a side note though if you get the cree 30w or more ones and use them all the time (as DRL's for example) they will fail. There isn't enough heat sink to remove the heat from the base of each led chip so they will cook. One of the reasons why I put the Mercedes ones in eventually.

Thanks xpower

The plan is only to use them as fog lights - and cornering lights.

Again many thanks

@ Xpower, any chance you could tell me which of the lugs you altered to make the H8 Fit please. any Pictures ?

I can't remember, I just lined the 2 up (old and new) and just trimmed the differences. It was much though, think it was on two to the lugs

If you don't want to loose the fog light function and don't want to blind other drivers, don't buy similar products: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-h16-PSX24-H16-cree-LED-Car-Fog-Bulbs-30W-CREE-h16-led-car-High-Power/32285596061.html

Better idea to buy something like this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-2pc-lot-CREE-XML-2-car-LED-headlight-H8-super-bright-car-led-H8/2047810395.html

Second one has 2 LEDs in the right position and you will have a similar beam pattern. I retrofitted these type in my Elegance and they are twice as bright as my original H8 bulbs. Note: these bulbs don't support dimming so cornering fogs will work just on/off (no fade out).

I don't know the vRS but the Elegance has plenty of space behind the fog lamp for the external driver and heat sink. You have to verify...
