Merc c220cdi opinions?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been thinking of changing the vrs for a while now

Had a good look round places and after a few test drives found a Merc c220 cdi

It's the 3 door coupe thingy (automatic )

It's a 58 plate and has done 46k and drives well

This is kinda heart over head thing but

I've always wanted a Merc

Thing is,it's now 7 years old so is older with more miles than my present car

I'm basically asking if a Merc of that age is still a baby at that mileage and is there loadsa life left in it?

It's a diesel and £225 to tax so am assuming there's no dpf

If there is,then deal off!

Any thoughts or anyone owned one?

im sure a sprinter with the same engine in all have dpf`s.  tbh everyone i know that have had a merc said they are not as good as they thought.  id stay vag imo

If it was dpf surely the tax wouldn't be that expensive?

Thought cheap tax was a selling point for dpf

my superb is £180 a year and has a dpf where as my mk1 fabia vrs was only £140 and had no dpf tbh i think its just a money maker

That engine is an old engine tweaked to get under the euro 5 limits for emissions. The inlaws have a 08 plate C220 saloon, that deffo has a dpf so I'd expect the coupe to have it too. Nice car, feels a little bit cheap inside but looks the parts with the AMG kit and wheels on. Obviously running costs and repairs are a bit more but that's expected.

Good taxi.

Think about if you ever need to go to a big city as Euro5 diesel cars and looking likely to be having to pay up to £10 a day for entering those places due to the PM pollutants.

terrible taxi

terrible taxi

So why are so many TAXIs, here and on the continent?

C and E types, sadly not S types but I recall Diana S Class Merc crash and even a decade or two later it gives me the willies remembering the photos.

did you actually read the original post, or do you think a three door coupe makes for a good taxi...?

Coupe, diesel, Mercedes, C class, 0-60 over 8 seconds, hmmm.

MPG sounds quite good, good safety score, resuduals OK, 50p a mile running costs

so it would probably make a nice company car, but it's next to useless as a taxi. regardless, none of this is particularly helping the OP

I assumed it was a clc coupe thing, 3 door hatch.

Mercs certainly have had their share of reliability problems in recent years all well documented elsewhere.  The Taxi thing is what has always put me off them to be honest as wherever you go in the World they use Mercs as Taxis.  For a very good reason obviously but whenever I sit in one I cannot get Taxi out of my head.  So not for me but it isn't me that is buying one.

If the car is what you want you pay your money and take your choice with a 7 year old car.  It could be a gem alternatively it could be a dog and a bit of tinternet search for the model should let you know which way it is likely to go.  Honest John or What Car are always a good place to start when looking for reliability reports of cars.

Hope that helps.

Cheers all

It would appear then this car has a dpf

Car people rang and I told em I ain't interested

As stated mercs had a bad patch for quite a while there

Shame,but onwards and upwards

Also drove a 5door swift sport, nice enough but just the boot space let it down

Back to the drawing board then!

I like them, little cheaper than the equivalent BMW.

Silly foot operated parking brake so auto is probably the way to go.

I was heading in the direction before I got the Accord. I really wanted a facelifted E250CDI Estate but they were well out my budget.

C250cdi is a bit of a monster similar vein to the 330d.

Big premium on the sport styled cars but they do look better.

I never got as far as getting in one. All the Merc dealers near me have been bought up by Arnold Clark and prebious experience put me off going near his sites.
