Console bush Problem.

Featured Replies

I've got a bit of a problem with my car. Since Yesterday morning the ABS has been trying to kick in at low speeds but I have no warning light on or anything on the dash, I've done a little bit of digging around and pretty much came to the conclusion that it must be Wheel Bearing or ABS sensor related.

Anyway, today I happened to park my car with the steering on full lock and noticed that both my front tyres are absolutely knackered, not good. I haven't got access to a Jack or axle stands at the minute so I can't get under it to have a proper look but I have noticed that the drivers side Console Bush has slid out about 5mm from it's housing, which I think is also the cause of me getting a Thud upon Acceleration and Deceleration which I thought may have been a Faulty Engine Mount.

So to cut a long story short my question what could cause the Bush to be able to slide out from it normal position? It's a New Console bush, the front mount looks fine.

What console bush is it? The standard one and cupra ones I can't see moving as they take a bit of force to get in but the PSB and Powerflex style ones could. Can't say I've heard of it happening before but I guess it could if it wasn't fit correctly and/or lined up properly.

Defiantly have to get it jacked up to see what's going on! Hard to say otherwise.

It's the Psb Bushes they have a lip on them so when they are in place the lip wraps around the outside of the housing if that makes sense.

The passenger side is fine but I did fit them myself and although I'm sure I fitted them properly, I suppose it can't be ruled out. I can't believe how quickly it's ate my tyres though, they were ok but coming up due for replacement but now in the space of  this weekend they are almost slicks.

I've just ordered 2 new tyres and I'll get the car into the workshop to have a proper look, hopefully it's not done any damage to to the other components.

Did you get the tracking checked after fitting the bushes?

No admittedly I didn't, I know your supposed to but the front tyres were coming up for replacement so I was going to leave it until they needed to be changed then get to have it alighned.

I've just had another quick look and think I may have found the problem or at least part of it. One of the Console bracket bolts has either sheared of or fallen out :o. Hopefully the latter and hopefully it's not caused too much damage.

Yeah they do look fairly straightforward to fit in fairness going off the pictures on here...

The other things to check are the ball joint and front bush/bolt on the wishbone, could also check the bolts that secure the console subframe to the underside of the car but if these were loose I'd imagine you would know about it! I'd hold off on having the tracking done until you figure out what's gone on as the tracking being out wouldn't cause the bush to move out of place. .

Brakes thing sounds like abs sensor. Mine was doing same which stopped me from braking- now the lights on and the brakes work fine but no abs.

Finally plugged into code reader and front left sensor fault showing

:-)

I won't really know until I get under it their is defiantly a possibility one of the sensor is faulty but until I replace the console bracket bolt that has snapped or fallen out I won't know for sure.

The ABS only started playing up Saturday morning after I washed the car, but I did hit a decent sized pot hole the night before which triggered the ABS so it could all be related or it maybe just a coincidence. Fingers crossed i hope it's not too bad just don't want to be spending too much money on it right now if I can help it.
