Hi folks. Seem a good bunch on here so risking another query.

I am a little perplexed...

Need to order some diagnostic leads to find out why eml is flashing and loss of power.

item 390665706953

Then there are these...little pricier...

Item 251887906309

Then there are these self contained versions...not the cheap cheap ones...and from welsh company...

So, are the cheap leads good enough? Or what would you recommend out of these?

Its just a cheap little Fabia (2003) so dont want to go mad but at same time dont want to buy the wrong thing.

This is my first foray into diagnostics.

Is your car petrol or diesel?ive seen diag tools for 16quid on amazon

Petrol. The cheap leads on eBay start at fiver but don't know if they are any good or not.

A cheap lead can be fine if you just want to use VCDS Free (Google it) to scan for codes. The free version is very limited, the 'lowest' version of VCDS you want is Lite which will work with some cheap leads which will allow you to data log, clear codes etc.

Beware the cheap leads that come with VCDS 'cracked' version, I wouldn't plug a cracked version in to my car, never know what it may do.

Oh you may be able to get away with a bluetooth dongle like an ELM327 and 'Torque' app on your smart phone if you have one, by var the most convenient way to read/clear codes, but it doesn't pick up all codes like VCDS would.

Where are you based? You may find someone local to scan it for you.

bluetooth OBD connector and Torque app.

I'm in NI.I'm sick of paying to get codes read and cleared.

This torque app for smartphone. Will it read and clear engine codes like 02 sensors and ignition coils?

I assume its this I would buy then...

I'm a bit lost with the choice as its my first venture into diagnostics.

Is it worth stretching to this little unit?...

Sorry guys, just trying to clarify before buying. Def want to clear the codes as well as read them.

Here, use my lead...

Your EML is flashing because you have an intermittent misfire, almost certainly caused by a failing coil pack.
