DSG switching on D-mode

Featured Replies

I tried searching but couldn't find an answer so here we go, car is a 2011 Fabia VRS.

Question on the DSG switching, I hadn't put any thought onto it since today, but how should the gearbox switch in terms of revs when driving with D?

when leaving from full or nearly full stop (D-selected) it will switch from 2nd to 3rd at exactly 4K rpm even if I floor it. Then from 3rd to 4th it will rev upto redline if I want it to.

When in manual or S it will rev past 4K.

No error codes.

Is this normal?

In 'D' your 'DQ200'  7 Speed Twin Dry clutch has 7 gears.

When you put it in 'S' it has 6 gears that operate.

Your gearbox sounds as though it operates as it should.

Worth reading the Printed Owners Manual.  Page 101. 'Dynamic shift programme.'

? Has your DSG been in or needed the Service Campaign work to change the Synthetic Oil for Mineral and do a Software Update

after they have checked the Mechatronic Control Unit.?

Ok, thanks. It has been in for the oil change campaign. Other than that, I don't know. I'm the second owner.

Sounds a little as if it likes to keep gears a bit longer than expected but then I couldn't tell for a fact without a video showing how much throttle you ask, road conditions etc. I very rarely see mine keeping 3rd gear up to 4K if I don't floor it. Usually, when I'm driving calmly around town, it will be in 7th before I know it, maybe from as early as 50 km/h never going over 2200 rpm maybe. But ask for more throttle and it will stay longer in gears or even drop down a few. It all depends on how much you press the accelerator pedal. Some say it adopts to your driving style so maybe mine has adopted the wife's habbits but I don't care so much as I'm driving in manual 90% of the time I drive it.

mine holds onto the gears longer if the engine is cold , this is usual with autos

It seems to hold gears longer since the remap, but this might be due to the ECU beeing reset and me frequently flooring it since, so it has now learned a more aggressive way of driving.

But that was not exactly my question, I cannot seem to be able to push the revs past 4K 2nd to 3rd no matter how much I floor it when on D. On higher gears it holds longer.

1st to 2nd, I don't know, since I'm not very comfortable flooring it from full stand still.

I think there's a limit as to what you can expect from an auto mode while for more, you are better off switching to manual. It's known that D is a mode for economical driving, keeping revs low and switching as early as possible. Yes there's a margin to that for situations when you exceptionally ask for extra throttle but If you want to go over 4K in 2nd gear, I'd say switch to manual (I find S useless). What you describe of your box, under the conditions that you mention doesn't sound strange in any way.

Yea I thought so :) just found it curious, because like said, on higher gears it will rev to redline pretty easily. I do drive it most time on D, as I find it to function very well, even when demading more.

S for me also is mostly useless.

Did you ask before in a post about your car not revving above 4,000 in P or N. Someone did. As to not reclining in 2nd, no idea why you would want to, I just redlining in 3rd and I q's at 30 mph and then at 100 mph in 4th before 6,000 rpm.

Nope I didn't. I'm aware it doesn't rev past 4K when stationary on P or N. A safety measure I suppose.

Not a question why I would want to, just wanted to know if it should :)

My (Nov 2012 CTHE) gearbox revs to redline in every gear in every mode depending on how fast I depress the accelerator pedal. If I do it really fast it goes bonkers and redlines in every gear from standstill in "D" mode in "S" mode and in manual mode. If it is slippery and wheels loose traction then it will shift up at lower revs unless I disable the TC.

Switch it to manual mode and see what happens. If it still refuses to rev to redline in every gear then you have a problem
