Advice please - does fabia 2 still have electric and door seal issues

Featured Replies

Hi, just been to see fabia 2 2007 1.4 in metallic copper and thinking of changing my fabia 1. I was a little disappointed to find that the passenger window button did not work or the central locking button to lock the doors from the inside. The dealer said they would fix these but i am wondering if the fabia 2 has the same problems as the 1. I had to pay to fix the back doors that leaked water in. I have changed two failed central locking motors, the heating is often stuck on hot and the engine management light is often on despite changing sensors recommended by garage. I was hoping the 2 might be more reliable. I should add that my fabia 1 is 2003 elegance 1.4. Would really appreciate any advice. Is the fabia 2 ok or should i steer clear

I have had 3 MK 2 Fabias and apart from the odd issue which was fixed under warranty, I've had no problems.  The door leak is a MK 1 problem - not an issue with the MK 2 as far as I am aware.  VW cars do suffer with the resistor to the fan motor failing.  But this is a common problem and fairly easily fixed.

The Fabia Mk2 is a great car with few if any issues. I've had two and both never had a problem apart from a failed rear wiper motor on my current 2009 estate. This was replaced under warranty with the lastest new motor which shouldn't ever have that issue again. My last Fabia was the Mk2 Estate diesel bought new and never had a single issue with it in 5 years. Like any car, anything can go wrong but the Skoda Fabia's definitely gets fewer issues than any car I've ever bought in my life. Our whole family drives Skoda all with similar results. No problems. Also don't forget that reading forums can seem a bit scary when you see so many folks reporting issues. In reality, we on this forum represent just a tiny number of Skoda owners most of whom never get issues. People with issues rightly go on forums for answers so it can seem bad some days. If your garage fixes the issues then no reason to not buy. Oh...never had a water leak of any kind. And no door seal problems either.

I concur with Estate Man above, the MK 2 Fabia is a very reliable car. I've owned 2 and also a MK1.

The Mk 11 has had a few reports of window mechanism problems as well as a few rear wiper motors failing but , hoping not to tempt fate I've had neither.

The Mk 1 door seals were not the problem, it was the door card seals that allowed water to run down the inside of the door inner bottom and straight into the car, mainly rear doors but what a PITA. I had mine 'fixed' but still the foot wells were wet through everytime it rained. No such probs with the Mk 11.

Oil consumption has been another issue with some Mk11 engines but it appears to be Vrs related with no such problems on the little 3 pot 1.2 engines, 1.4, 1.2 Tsi or diesels.

Indeed Horkin, and no oil consumption related issues on the 1.6 16v (Golf engined) version like mine. My buddy bought a brand new 1.4 petrol VW Polo and he had water leaking in through the door card seals for the life of the car inspite of it being 'fixed' under warranty no less than 4 times in the 15 years he owned it! I don't know why he didn't tackle it himself as it was easy enough to permanently fix and a major **** up by VW. I did offer to do it for him but he declined.  However, he did over 126,000 trouble free miles in that car and has just bought another brand new Polo this time with the lovely 3 pot 1.2 petrol engine in it. He loves it and this time no water leaks.  Glad you are still in love with your new motor Horkin! The Fabia takes a bit of beating in my book.
