Clutch pedal box issues

Featured Replies

For the past few months the clutch pedal (with the engine running) has been making a twang/tinging noise when it was pressed down and released. I mentioned it to the garage when our Citigo went in for its 2nd service. They have said that lubricating the mechanism has made no difference so the clutch pedal assy needs replacing and it has been agreed under the warranty. Just need to book it back in to get it done.

Is this the same clutch 'click' issue that people have reported? Hasn't happened on mine so can't tell you exactly what it sounds/feels like.

After reading all this on the UP forum they've actually recognised a problem and are replacing now at last.

The noise is not from the clutch area (release bearing) its from the pedal box area. It's like the end of a spring under tension that slips occasionally as the end is moved/rotated/

Yep, sounds like the 'clutch click' issue. You are not alone!

One of the very few things i won't miss about my Citigo.

My previous Mii developed this issue and when I took it in and demonstrated it to the mechanic (clearly rolling his eyes and sighing) stated they all do it. Also demonstrated the gearbox rattle while stationary by engaging/disengaging the clutch in neutral.

When I picked the car up I was told the clutch master cylinder was replaced (not convinced this happened!) and that the rattling gearbox was normal (service receptionist read off a A4 sheet from HQ). Both issues remained though.

Touch wood, neither issue is apparent on my new Mii Sport which has it seems an updated gearbox at least. You now have to push down after pushing across before engaging reverse.

It's about time they revised the gearbox and seems to be ok except a few complaining still on the UP forum.

So I have the new design of gearbox as well - winner winner...

Yes it's only us older Citigos that have the rattly one [emoji57]

Yeah and only one window switch!

Well We have had the new pedal box fitted and there is no twanging/dinging noise when we press the clutch pedal (so far). Just a little noise of the clutch release bearing touching the clutch assembly.

One thing I have found with the replacement clutch pedal box is due to it now being hydraulic it is quite heavy in comparison to the old version which makes it a tiny bit uncomfortable in traffic but nothing major.

Cant say it is any heavier and I'm sure it was hydraulic before?

.. Just a little noise of the clutch release bearing touching the clutch assembly.

Which disappears if you push clutch pedal half way down? Is so, it's something in gearbox, not release bearing. ;)

The only thing that is pushed when you press the clutch pedal is the release bearing against the clutch pressure plate. With the pedal up, there is a small amount of play between the release bearing and the pressure plate. Thus the noise is not from the inside of the gear box but rather the clutch bell housing.

When you push clutch pedal half way down all shafts and gear cogs stops in gearbox. At the same time noise disappear.

If it was release bearing rattling, noise should disappear as soon you put your feet on the clutch pedal. It does not.

This argument again [emoji57]

Tell me why it cannot be gearbox noise?

I don't have this noise. Can anyone tell me what in the gearbox/clutch assembly that isn't making it?
