1.2htp

Featured Replies

Does the plain 70hp 3cylinder 1.2htp suffer from the timing chain strech/break problems of the tsi models?

My car is a 57 plate with 40K miles, no unusual noises on start up.

Had quite a few HTP's over the years and they seem a robust motor.

My 1.2 60 horse HTP is fine and it's at 58K on an 11 reg. Been thrashed since 48K and has been, fingers crossed, absolutely perfect.

The htp models have no issues with their chain. Provided you stick to the oil/filter schedule and don't go over they last forever.

I have just got rid of one on 135k and the other is on 45k. No problems and both as sweet mechanically.

55k on ours. Serviced once a year and subject to abuse by SWMBO and daughter rest of the time. No issues (with the car anyway)

Rock solid engine - bought a Fabia 1.2htp for my mum in January, does the job nicely.

If your car doesn't have the under bonnet soundproofing, it's well worth buying. Only costs £16 and substantially reduces the gruff engine noise on clod start and in low gears.

Where did you buy the under bonnet soundproofing from mate I need that as well lol

You buy from the dealers, ask for the under bonnet insulation as fitted to diesel engine models. Part no 5J0863831 I've fitted them to a couple of our cars, but don't fool yourself, it only makes a subtle difference to noise levels, and helps keep the engine from cooling down quickly in winter - a bit.

Xman - it makes more than a subtle difference. On my mum's 1.2 the noise reduction both inside the cabin and outside was substantial, so much so that even her neighbours commented on how much quieter the car suddenly was.

AdamRSG - if you buy the bonnet insulation, be aware that it comes with all the mounting clips you need pre-fitted, so no need to order them separately.

Thanks for that chris my htp is so noisy it irritates me sometimes lol and thanks

Must have different ears to mine, though I wanted it to make a big difference after spending my cash, it really only makes it slightly more mute. These things are only fitted as standard to the diesels for a reason. Don't build your hopes up too much Adam, its mainly a placebo effect.

Haha I know what you mean mate if only they made engine covers for the htp as well it would look neat

And would be something to paint red to match the car (other colours are available) or just keep nice and shiny.

I know yh mate shame they never made one though, I really want one as well lol

And it would make it look like there was an engine under there. I think they should have mounted the 1.2 to 1 side and put the spare wheel under there so we could have a bigger boot.

Exactly, that acc is a good idea Skoda never really thought about this car properly did they, I've got a 12" sub in my boot and haven't got much room left

My 57 1.2 HTP is cracking little car to drive, manage to get an average of 41mpg doing a 32 mile run every day....

but it does make a stange creaking sound from somewhere underneath when going over bumps, especially when starting out....i think the creaking goes after the car has been driven for a bit and warmed up..has anybody else found this on their HTP

41 mpg how did you work that out and manage that mine is a level 1 so i do tank to tank calculations £20 used to get me 200 miles now im getting 120?? But not to sure about thay noise mate could be the bushes but then I dont know for sure

Same, tank to tank, do an average of 185 per week, top up the tank with around 20 lts (petrol)....wondering if i would get a lot more if i had bought a diesel..

What is level 1?

on the last mot, they did mention the bushes....any idea the rough cost to replace

Thx

Same here mate mines petrol also and level 1 trim, the basic version and bushes are not much mate, euro car parts have em but depends on which parts you need thet wont be more than £40 for both sides

Creaking might be console bushes.

Andy

I brought 2 suspension arms for both sides, 2 anti roll bar bushes and my noise has gone

Im thinking of changing the brake pads myself....is this a job that can by done my someone who does not have any car mechanics training....allbeit i used to change the brake pads on my renault 5 back in the day...its not as if you have to connect the HTP to a mainframe like most cars these days...also would i need any specialist tools

Thx

Looks like the front lower arm rear bushes are done for... i have a quote to replace at £200...does this reasonable?
