Swap from fixed to variable servicing

Featured Replies

Car is coming upto 40k miles. 170 CR.

First 3 'free' services done every 10k miles.

I now want to swap to variable servicing.

What service should I get now Skoda's big or small service.

Plan to get it serviced either once a year or when it asks for it. Tend to do approx 15k miles a year.

Would ask the garage but I'll prefer the answers here!

Secondly, car will be 3 in October, and I'll be zooming round Rockingham in June - Presume a brake fluid change is in order - before or after Rockingham?

Cheers.

Go for the £139 oil and filter change.

Check your service book to determine when the fuel filter needs replacing.

Buy the air and pollen filter from the parts department and fit them yourself. Dead easy. 5 mins each.

Unless your car needs it all doing then don't pay the £259 for the major service.

Even a minor at £139 plus the other bits off their menu pricing will cost less than the major service, or at least it is at my local dealer.

Here's the fixed major/minor services and what's included. At 40k going by the 'book' it's due a major. Personally as you're transferring to variable so your next service could be anything up to 2 years away I'd go for a major if it was mine, but it's your call.

Cheers for the comments, all food for thought.

On the fixed price servicing info it has a note:

This offer applies to vehicles following a fixed servicing regime only. Customers whose vehicles are on a flexible servicing regime can ask their participating ŠKODA Authorised Repairer about changing over to a fixed servicing regime if they believe this

So what the chuff does a variable service cost!

Think it's about the same as the major one, but you'd need to check as although there's a national pricing structure for certain things like the servicing and maintenance otems like cam belt and brake discs and pads I don't think all dealers are signed up to it. If you're switching to variable they will probably recommend this service is the variable one too. Good luck

Ignore it.

A minor service is a fixed service (10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever is reached first). This is an oil and filter change, no more.

A major service is a variable service (up to approx. 20,000 miles or 2 years - the car decides when it needs fresh oil).

The piece of small print you really need to pay attention to is this one:

† These items will be replaced, if required. This will be determined by the manufacturer's service regime data.

This is why you should never ask for the major / variable service unless you can be sure you are going to get all of the bits listed.

If your car is not due an air, pollen or fuel filter then Skoda will happily charge you £259 for a £139 oil change.

Why change? Short-term gain for longterm pain as the engine will have a much longer life with 10k oil changes (etc.). - especially if you are planning to hammer it around places like Rockingham  :notme:

Stick with fixed.  Variable servicing is for fleet managers or people that intend to keep their car for only a few years.

Ignore it.

Thanks for that clear and unambiguous posting. Now I understand.
