Octavia Mk2 - Engines, DPFs, Cambelts, Oils, Brakes and Servicing Info

Recommended Posts

I replaced the fuel filter on my petrol vrs (2008 model) at 6 years old & 54,000miles & the petrol coming out of it was brown so filter was overdue a change,no way would i say its a "Lifetime" filter. Worth changing it every 4 years id say.

Mikey, thanks for the feedback.  The info I've posted is what is specified by Skoda, for example, anyone having full main dealer servicing won't ever have the fuel filter changed as part of the standard servicing regime on a petrol engined Octavia as I understand it.

I agree however with you about it being advisable to change it, I changed mine at around 6 years too.  I'll update my original post to put a note recommending change at 4 years.

Very useful. Here is another one from the Owners Manual concerning the car battery.

Batteries, which are more than 5 years old, must be replaced. We recommend you have the battery checked or replaced by a specialist garage.

This should be a sticky.

I've never seen it laid out in such an easy to read format.  Skoda should take note

Needs to be a sticky yes. Thank you very much for some clear cut info i.e the brakes. Cheers

Agreed,

We have a 53 Octavia estate, handed down in the family. Has done 144k. great car!!

We think the cam belt was done 120k, not sure she water pump was done. Any thoughts when we should do cam belt and water pump? cheers :)

Manual Gearbox.  The book says it's a lifetime fill but you'd really want to be changing it somewhere between 100,000km (60,000miles) and a maximum of 160,000km (100,000miles).  Unless you're one of those folk that really believe oil stays at it's best forever.

Hello this is my first post here .I am only posting here due to an e mail and post card from my Skoda dealer telling me my Skoda Octaivia mk 2 with a 1.6crtdi diesel engine with an CAY engine 2010 with 51000 miles requires a cam belt change  but on the charts it says 130487 miles ,who is right ,it is on a long life service which was done at 30000 approx. ,great car second Octavia and getting 57-58 mpg ,

What does your service book say?

dealer probably sends out a form mail to all owners including those with chain drive.

200,000km / 7 years is probably right. Check your book & ring the dealer & ask why the discrepancy. There might be a TSB reducing the distance/time from the original specification.

PS: your post would have been more appropriate as a new thread (IMO)

My car takes 15 miles to warm up in winter, so you're saying 60 miles before I can give it some? Surely very few people commute that far?

That's an estimate made in 0deg down to -20deg C.

Gear Box oil most likely never warm up in your condition. Check out guys driving truck in North Territories - they never turn off engines and never stop.

Check out servis book - there is everything about intervals.

Used to be 90k km, then 120k km - 200k km is usually chains. So if above by mentioned engine has got chain instead of belt, then it may be correct.
