Fabia SE cruise control....

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've recently sold my Fabia SE and the guy who bought it has told me the cruise control doesn't work! I'm honestly at a loss because it was working last time I used it (a while ago) but apparently it doesn't work at all!

Being an honest guy and being as I've just sold the car, this is a bit embarasing,so I want to get this sorted for the new owner ;-)

Does anyone have any first hand experience with cruise control on the mk1 Fabia that could help or even scan the car please? It's located in Bath, but the guy could maybe travel to you? ;-)

Any help appreciated

Thankyou

Mark

Is he sure he knows how to operate it? When I first bought the car I didn't think it was the simplest of systems.

agreed - when I first drove mine I couldn't get it to work (swore I was doing it right) then it came on when I didn't mean it to while heading up off a motorway slip road

I find to activate it you have to press the button on the end of the stalk first and then push the little switch on the stalk, i thought same as others due to no light being on display to indicate it being on

As said above there is no light on the dash to indicate the system is working, this maybe why he thinks it isn't working?

It's fairly simple to use. The switch on the stalk must be in the ON position for the system to be active, then accelerate to the desired speed, while holding the car at the desired speed press the button on the end of the stalk and release the accelerator pedal. If you test it on an incline you will definitely feel it working. I find it can take a couple of attempts to get it to set right mind, it's not the most intuitive of systems.

I admire your honesty but are you sure he's not a scammer? I've heard of this happening before. Alarm bells should be ringing if he mentions any of his money back or the like.

The buyer has had mk1 fabias before and is quite knowledgeable,so I'm sure he knows how the CC works ;-)

He was an honest, genuine guy! And his son is a forum member on here,so I seriously doubt I'm being misled! ;-)

Worst case scenario is a new stalk or a new brake/clutch pedal switch!

At the end of the day I just don't want anyone bad mouthing me due to something trivial!

Given it was a private sale the buyer should have checked everything was working before agreeing and settling the deal. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be entertaining the idea of handing any money back to pay for a fix, to put it bluntly, it's their problem now!

No one can expect to buy a 7-8 year old car and not have a few little niggles. It could be something as simple as the fuse, the contact needing cleaning or a replacement part required.

I'm not going to get into a war of words with people on here but to suggest someone is out to con another person is being very presumptuous and quite rude as well as unnecessary.

Mark has asked for help and advice so unless it's help or advice you're offering then please keep your assuming and condescending comments to yourself.

After speaking with Mark in person, he is a genuine and honest person and it's refreshing to come across such a person this day in age as clearly a lot of people like to just dump and run.

It is also being assumed that the person who bought the car actually drove the car before they purchased said car.

My CC packed up working and I am waiting to change the Brake Pedal Switch, although the Brake Lights still work.

DB.

Has it been confirmed that it was the brake pedal switch that is causing the CC not to work mogwye?

Not until I change it.

I would expect someone who is buying a USED car to at least go and look at it before buying! If they don't and end up with a lemon then they really only have themselves to blame. There are a lot of shoddy examples out there and just as many dodgy sellers. Not suggesting that in this instance it is the case.

The other guy who was on about scammers was simply pointing out that it has been known in the past for buyers to try and get money out of sellers even when the fault with the car wasn't that serious or made it out to be more serious than it is. The OP asked for advice and he got some looking at all angles, I certainly don't think anyone's response was 'assuming' or 'condescending' ok maybe a bit blunt but if it's prickled some hairs up on someone's back I'd question whether the internet is a place for them lol.

Look Matthew, the car was viewed before it was purchased but Mark drove the car on the test drive so the person who purchased the car did not get the chance to test everything on the car was working and so you have proved one of my points because you assumed the car hadn't been viewed or driven before being purchased.

As for scammers I think Mark would know if the buyer was a scammer/genuine or not. To suggest someone might be a scammer is simply scaremongering. I'm sure if Mark had any concerns he would have already asked in regards to that which he hasn't.

Unless you have anything else regarding helping to get the issue in the title of this thread sorted then please see your way out, your other comments are not wanted or needed :-)

Thanks to everyone else to has offered help and advice in regards to the CC issue.

My cruise control doesn't work either on my SE. I've checked the fuse and tried every combination to make it work. I'm considering a brake switch even though my lights are also fine. Please post results of the change as it'll decide whether I make the purchase as well.
