Anyone,

got any idea where I can get a Bluetooth box of tricks

that will talk with me T68i and mute the car radio and use the inbuilt speakers and Mike on my 4x4 ?

there must be somthing new out there

SonyEricson do a damned fine bluetooth kit that is a doddle to fit and does everything you ask (I know as I have one in my van fitted by me..its the one with the remote black/silver switch you fix anywhere you like) . It also works with other bluetooth phones, which is handy as your T68i will pack up, they all do(software fault inside), although unless you stick with s/ericson you may loose some of the automatic features if used with the S/E phone.

I have heard that the Sony Ericson kit is the one to have though regardless as although Bluetooth is supposed to be an industry standard, the S/E kit will work with most makes whereas the Nokia kits will only work with Nokia phones.

Have looked into this and youcould also look at the parrott kit which seems to be as good as the S/e one .try Expansys.com for links and information.

Let me know as I will be going down the same route later this year. Has anyone else heard of using headsets being illegal soon?

That doesn't say headsets are going to be illegal. It says "drivers risk prosecution ... if the use of a phone affects their driving ....", implying discretion will be given to the Police officer in such cases.

Wow that's going to be the cause of more court cases and counter claims than anything else!

What about speaker phones in the car? I guess they must also be covered.....

It says you will get done for holding a phone, surely if you are wearing a headset and the phone is not in youre hand you can not be done.

With regard the Bluetooth i looked at this but decided that while it is a good idea for answering the phone ( when it can be in youre pocket etc) What about making calls you then still either need to hand hold the phone or have to have a holder in which case you might as well have a full car kit. I know that you should then be able to use any bluetooth phone and not have to keep changing the kit but as already illustrated they are not as compatible as they would have you believe. Or am i missing the point?

I opted for the Nokia full kit and apparently i should be able to just buy a new holder instead of the complete kit as and when i change my phone. ( Fine if you like Nokia's)

I positioned it next to the Handbrake in my vRS and it seems to work very well.

When the new law comes in, in December, it will outlaw the use of hand held mobile phones.

On this basis plug in the ear hands free, bluetooth hands free and proper installed car kits will all comply with the law. This is not entirely satisfactory in my opinion, because what do you do with the phone when you use a plug in the ear jobbie or bluetooth headset - many times you see a phone being balanced on peoples knees and what happens to the phone if you have to brake suddenly!

I think the law should have stated the use of fixed in car kits as these offer the safest use in car.

As I understand it from previous official papers I have read, the phone must be held in a proper holder connected to a handsfree kit which does not require you to need to hold the phone to work it. This therefore removes the loose ear plug and speaker wire you see people with, but although not needed to be in a car kit it shouldnt remove the Bluetooth headsets as they are wirefree and remote and allow you to voice dial , thus not needing much fingerwork or causing any distraction.

My Bluetooth S/E kit works merrily with my Siemans phone, and still allows for voice dialling as did my previous (5) T68i (S/E).

Well you've prompted me into action. after much hacking through the web this is my 21st century ! solution :-

1- upgraded from T68i to T610 at no cost

this has an antenna port for a car ariel

2- Parrott CK3000 blue tooth kit- because it stores its own voice dial numbers and is more developed than the s/e product and more sophisticated

3- s/e cradle hch 33

4- s/e hce antenna adaptor and cigarette adaptor for power

total cost 206.00 including vat and carriage

this should mean that the phone is charged whilst in bluetooth mode to save the battery , the antenna should compensate for the crap coverage from any network, and the parrott will mute the stereo and handle all voice dialling. wil be able to cope with new phones as well without changing car kit. also means that when the wife drives with her phone it will automatically pair with that to .

And for privacy I can use the bluetooth headset.

the biggest thing for me was the external antenna which is where the t610 comes in . -if you haven't got one get one !
