All the things I have found missing from my car and upgrade suggestions?

Featured Replies

So far my poverty spec car is missing:

A fuel computer

A locking fuel filler cap (has a key in the cap itself)

an alarm (sensor box is there but no wiring)

central locking (ebay kit sorted that but upgraded ccm on the way for oem skoda fitting)

Dimmer for the instruments (no idea if I can fit one using existing wiring)

Arm rest (really miss this)

Rear electric windows

Pretty much every module in the car seems to be the lowest spec, any ideas what I can upgrade? I have a Highline steering controller, cruise control stalk, slipring and computer stalk already fitted. A better spec CCM on the way along with MK2 Maxidots and MFSW from a MK1 superb which I hope fits, ideas on what else I can upgrade are welcomed. I know a lot of you will think I am mad buying a low spec car and upgrading but I got it cheap and I love tinkering.

Have you had any luck with any of your upgrades? I'm in the same "boat" - I have an 09 Octavia 1.9tdi

My main bug is the central locking - can you explain a little more about what you have done? I'm not technical at all - so I've said to the chap who services my car "I'll do the research - you fit it!"

Cheers

Hi Stuart, I have done quite a few of them the central locking was pretty easy. There are two routes to it, either buy the Chinese kit I did which is great or buy an upgraded Ccm and used key fob from eBay which I also did I now have 3 remote keys. The Chinese kit needs a 180ohm (35p maplins) resistor and the kit, all the wiring is in the drivers door and only the panel needs to come off. I would be happy to help if you are local? You will also need to get the haa keys cut (£5 each at timpsons) and take the transponders from your old keys. The Ccm route needs vcds to code the remotes but is simple, it also needs the transponders from your old keys or virgin ones which are under £5 but then you need your immobiliser code to program them which needs different software. I also did this myself and it was pretty easy but I wouldn't want to do someone else's as if it went wrong it could be quite embarrassing. Eddie_nl is the guy for that my car us an 06 so not sure how similar they are, you would have to find out from someone in the know.

If you already have two keys as I did you shouldn't need to go near the immobiliser so no worries there. You just need vcds to copy over your options in Ccm and turn off a few that you won't have as it will be from a car with more toys than yours. You may also need to turn off the stupid two click locking function if it's turned on (if your back doors stay locked when you open your car with 1 turn of key) if left on the Chinese kit won't open the back doors from the remote.

I have also fitted cruise control, maxidot clocks so now have a fuel computer, a mfsw (just waiting for the airbag loom to arrive) and lots of other little bits. All the info is out there but not much documented on here so I went to the mk5 golf forums for the info I needed . Again Eddie nl is the guy to trust if you would rather pay an expert, he can do all the stuff you might need.

I would love a mfsw :-/ even my vrs don't have that :(

I only got it as it wasn't much more than standard and I got the highline steering controller with the computer stalk I needed. I basically only ever really wanted the fuel computer. I got the computer stalk, Cruise stalk, slipring , ignition barrel, steering angle sensor and key for £20. It started the ball rolling and my rubber wheel looked like a beaver had been trapped in the car. As I had the highline steering controller and cruise and computer stalk it seemed to make sense to fit maxidot clocks which cost me £50.then the mfsw cost me £50 and airbag loom £14 (if it works) Hopefully this means for £134 I got fuel computer, Cruise, maxidot and mfsw. Add the £14 for the upgraded Ccm and I could also say I got central locking as the stalks came with a used key.

Details in link in my sig if you're still interested in retro-fitting an armrest/jumbo box.

I am definitely going to get to it as with a 2 year old and a 3 month old I could really use the aircon vents in the back. This month I have a singlemass flywheel conversion, cambelt and waterpump, rear dogbone engine mount and EGR to fit lol

I'm not sure a maxidot or MFSW from a MK1 Superb is going to work.

Only the wheel is from a Superb, the maxidots are from a TDI and are already in and working 100%. The wheel I have is very similar to the octavia one, I may have to change the buttons yet not sure as mine has cruise and audio, think I did see that in VCDS though:
