Wheel spacers and haldex

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Quick question regarding the haldex system and wheel spacers. I know most 4x4 systems require a square setup, but then others don't (bmw x5 comes to mind). Just about to pick up my scout on Monday and had a visit at the dealers today and noticed the back wheels are really barried under the fenders. I think a 15-20mm spacer would solve this problem but wondering if it would cause any issues with the haldex system running a spacer in the back and no spacer in the front.

Thanks

It shouldn't be an issue because it won't affect rolling circumference, but it may put a little more stress on your bearings.

The issue is that they don't want front and rear wheels rotating at different rates because that can affect AWD operation and wear on the center diff.

Ah Ok thanks, I'll be looking into a set of spacers then. I've had a look on a forum and see people are running between 8 and 30mm on the rears, and up to 10mm on the front, but from I recall the front looked pretty decent on my scout.

Does anyone have any recommendations for brand/type. I got as far as finding out that they should be hubcentric but I've got no info on offset etc.

Thanks

Never really used them myself in recent years but I would say that they are not something to skimp on and get cheap off ebay.

Definitely use hubcentric unless thin enough, H&R have a pretty good reputation overall but there are always some detractors. Good starting point though if you are going down that route

Well collected the car yesterday and had another look at how the back is setup. Not really sure If I can be bothered to adjust them in hindsight, it looks pretty decent, maybe after the honeymoon phase when my hands will start to itch Ill have a go.

Thanks for the tips guys.
