Remap Sales

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

My first post so hoping this is in the right place. I've owned a 2010 Octavia VRS CR TDI for 3 months having previously owned a Seat Leon FR TSFI which (I think) had a REVO remap. I made the move because my commute went from 6miles to 60miles. I am missing the extra power though.

I've been reading on here about 2010+ Skodas having Anti Tune on the ECU requiring removal but both REVO and Superchips are advertising on their websites that they can now do this via the OBD. As I was reluctant to have my ECU removed this now seems like a go. I'll have the money in a few weeks time so don't mind fronting this early, but have read on here about both companies having seasonal sales particularly around Christmas.

My question is, does anyone know if they usually have Summer Sales & if so, what months? I wondering if it would be worth hanging it out a Little to save some money.

May consider Shark as well, but they're already £100 more than the others.

You gey what you pay for, if you're a paid up Freedom member (£12 per year), Shark offer a 10% discount, so that will reduce the difference if you haven't already accounted for it

Plus current sts offer if it's still running?

Would need to check, I know there wasn't long left on it

You get what you pay for simply isn't true. We're Skoda owners, otherwise we would have gone to Audi. Haha.

I get what your saying though, they have very positive feedback on here & seem to have quote the most power. Still, it'll be £50 over Revo & Superchips plus I can't see anything on their site mentioning the Anti-tune ECU either way (bench map or OBD). Can't see no STS offer.

To be fair, I've not read anything negative on here about Revo or Superchips either & I like the idea of the Bluefin so I can remove it as the car is still under warrenty hence my reluctance to have the ECU removed.

It does not matter if you have the Remap done via the OBD port,

If the Warranty says the Electric Enhancement of the Engine Management from Factory Standard or Approved Voids the Warranty,

then you Remapped & on a Warranty Claim on Engine or Drivetrain it will be easy to find on the ECU.

Even if you use Bluefin.

If you want to Up the Power with Mods & Remap just foot the bill yourself if there are any failures.

You may be asked to sign a Warranty Claim Declaration when making one.

Best be sure any engine being given a new Engine Management with a Remap is as good as it can

be from Standard, well maintained and reliable & efficient, and the other components.

& check with your Insurance provider that you can get insured by them, or maybe change companies.

^This.

I asked how much my premium would increase when renewing the other day and the operator stated the company could not insure me were I to modify the car to improve performance or any kind, be it for improved economy or power output. I was expecting a hundred quid or so increase, not a complete refusal! I will try again in a couple of years :)

I was insured with Aviva a few years ago, all mods, including remap declared, then at renewal they sent me a letter saying they couldn't offer me insurance for the following year

I'm guessing on a 2010 vRS that the standard manufacturers warranty is long gone now.

Not if you opted for the 5 year Warranty at purchase.(but that is a 2 year Extension.)

First cars went on sale June 2010..

From June 2010-December 2014 there are 2,846 on the road (or registered) in the UK & 10 on a SORN

(a few in now getting new engines fitted at Skodas expense, including ones past the Original Warranty Period.)

Quite a few owners got an Extended / Fresh Warranty when Skoda replaced the 1st Engine or even the 2nd one.

Then there are those with the Skoda Approved Extended Warranty provided by Car Care LTD. (Exclusions to Modifying.)

But yes the Original UK 3 Year Manufacturers Warranty will have Expired or the 2 Year one.

Skoda / VW / Audi / Seat are still actually having to Replace Standard Engines on cars out of the Original Warranty,

due to Failures being from their Design, Manufacturing, Quality Control & Engine Management,

& Warranty Companies knowing that VW knew the Issues,  so known faults.

Are you talking Fabia vRS or Octavia?

The OP has an Octavia...

I was talking Fabia because i thought you were asking about that.

The OP said he has a Warranty, post #5,

no idea if the car had a 5 year one, Skoda Approved Used Car Warranty,

or an After Market Extended Warranty.

It's an extended warranty provided by Bristol Street where I brought the car.

Well, seems Superchips is out. They mailed me today saying from my engine code the ECU still needs to be removed. REVO have said all their software is flashed via the port, accept for 1.6 CR (caddy) and for diagnositic purposes the ECU reads exactly the same. Though I do appreciate if somebody digs deeper they'll find it.

Warranty or no, I'm not comfortable with the ECU coming out. I shall have to check the terms of my warranty in regards to an OBD port map. But looking like just REVO as an option at the moment but they provide no means to DIY remove it should it need to go in for work under warranty.

Wondering now if it's more trouble the It's worth..? If I get the map, sods law dictates I'll need warrenty work, if I don't get it done all will be fine and I'd wish I got it.

As for insurance, seems some will do it & some won't. Read a fair bit on the internet that insurance assessors never check the ECU as this costs time & money. I had an accident last year in my old car & they never did it & I suspect a previous over had mapped that. So again, another gamble & don't tell them.

I guess I could argue the Octavia was sold to me already mapped as well Haha. I don't know if it is logged in the ECU the time and date it recieves a map? If not, surely the ownus is on the dealer to prove it wasn't? I doubt each car taken in PX is subject to a rolling road?

Sorry but you are getting duff gen someplace.

You maybe want to read more, like in the Insurance & Legal Section on Briskoda.

& you can be sure if your vehicle is involved in a Serious Accident, Fatality, Life Changing even no fault of yours,

your ECU can be checked, Police Examiner or Loss Adjuster, and you can have Void Insurance for non Declaration.

As to how smart they can be,  they read Car Enthusiasts Forums,

see posts about thinking you can say it was Remapped when you bought it.

Ask to see your Credit Card or Bank Statements etc.

PS.

Did you have an Alfa 159 before getting an Octavia.?

Thats the kind of thing a Loss Adjuster will look at just using Google.

It matters not whether you know the car is remapped or not. If you tell the insurers that it's not modified, then have an accident, then they find out it is modified (or mapped) then you'll get your insurance cancelled.

Okay point taken. I probably wouldn't do that anyway, I'm too honest. So seems the remap is looking less likely.

just find a decent insurance company - plenty around that will accomodate unless your a statistically higher risk.

FWIW it wouldn't bother me if the ECU had to be removed as long as it was done by somebody who knows what they were doing and warrantied their own work against faults that may arise.

If you're in anyway dubious about having your car mapped, whether it is to do with warranty query, insurance or anything else, I wouldn't bother especially if you want to keep buying your insurance through comparison sites.

If you're going to do it properly, then use a good, specialist insurer and declare your mods, and wait until your warranty has expired.
