Mk1 Fabia vRS crazy prices insurance :(

Featured Replies

Saw a nice 2006 Mk1 Fabia vRS stage 1 remapped just like the 2006 one I used to own but also with uprated TT brakes and a front splitter. Now 8 or so years ago when I bought my 2006 Mk1 Fabia vRS and remapped it etc I paid £300-£330 in my early 20's with about 4 years NCD. Today with over 10 years NCD I think let's get a quote, just to see..... FML! Most refusing and the £10K+ brigade pops up etc Cheapest was over £900 with requirement for telematics lol Tried a few specialists and refused/couldn't even quote me. My current Mk1 Octy cheapest fully comp quote was £197. Would have gone out and bought that car right now and thought about what to do with the Octy tomorrow, but after that, not a mission! Different combinations of mods to no mods fluctuated the price by less than £100. My 2011 Octy II FL vRS remapped was £346 fully comp with all the bells and whistles just over a year ago ffs....

Gutted, but not paying retarded money for insurance, I had to pay nearly 3K starting out in a £250 piece 'o' crap in my own name and never made a claim, no convictions ever and in perhaps the lowest risk post code on earth in insurance terms :(

Did we refuse you FUBAR?

Yes, well couldn't get any quotes back lol. It's unreal, bar the car zero changes from current car same circumstances, cover, mileage, person, address and usage. I was annoyed that the E60 530D was £600 odd less than a year ago, now I am thinking it was a bargain :D

I expect its because they're all being bought up cheaply by bellends who stack them into things.

Strangely locally I know of 2 or 3 in my tiny village alone and another 5 maybe in the county that I see semi regularly and a good 10 Octy II vRS's. Where as I used to have the only Fabia vRS and then only Octy vRS and only once saw another one until about 18 months ago. Place is swarmed with them now, nearest dealer is 5 hour round trip which was main cause for their rareness. Like you say though, now a different class of driver seems to be into them with it falling to their price range (not that one of them will have declared a single mod tbh).

I'll look at why that was. Maybe it was the final bhp that was the reason but stage 1 wouldn't take you beyond 100bhp over stock would it?

Ah, I've found out why we couldn't provide a rate for you. I'll PM you rather than discuss it on the open forum.

I hate threads that end like this, we all want to know! Is Fubar a very naughty boy?

No, he's not naughty at all. We just didn't want to disclose the reason on the open forum because it is personal data.

He is totally naughty isn't he  :p

hahaha I am pure evil!!!!!!!

Issue it that I don't have a job at the moment, this creates a massive issue (more so for a car with any modifications it seems). No points / accidents, low risk post code (most people don't lock the door on their house type of area) NCD over 10 years, a miss mash of advanced qualifications etc.

Got this off Money Supermarket as reasoning why it increases price, as I couldn't understand it off the top of my head with no commuting, no peak time use and no abandoning it at a random undisclosed location to insurance during the day while at work and lower mileage etc. But there are reasons, some of which I understand and some that absolutely outrage me. One in particular I disliked I have highlighted lol

Association of British Insurers (ABI), the accumulated data shows that unemployment is an additional risk for insurers.

There are several reasons for this:

  • Car insurance companies look at how often a motorist will be using their vehicle, and view those who are out of work as likely to use their care more frequently to travel in search of work. Given that the more you drive, the higher the likelihood of you being involved in an accident, car insurance premiums will be higher.
  • Insurers also consider the fact unemployed drivers may be more distracted because of their circumstances, so may drive with less care. They may also be driving along roads that they are not familiar with, and trying to find new addresses to attend job interviews. This may make unemployed drivers more likely to have a bump. Once again, this results in higher costs when it comes to car insurance for the unemployed.
  • Unemployed individuals may also be viewed by insurers as less likely to maintain their vehicles, as they will have less spare cash to spend keeping their car in tip-top condition. In some cases, they will be viewed as a higher credit risk.
  • In addition, insurers say industry figures show there is an increased likelihood of those out of work making a claim - especially among the long-term unemployed. Not only this, but insurers say the long-term unemployed are also more likely to consider making fraudulent claims.

Self employed I think is what you meant to say... :P

Thanks for shedding some light on it FUBAR. Always nice to get some insight in to the crazy world of insurance premiums.

Well technically I could be a lot of things which vary the prices a lot, but I just play it totally straight. I am technically a 'landlord', 'independent means', 'house duties' or even 'retired'. But I am of working age and I am looking for a new job so I think unemployed fits best (just worst for insurance unfortunately). I planned ahead very sensibly, I receive zero pennies from the tax payer and am living off and spending my rental income and savings as I see fit, I am even keeping up national insurance contributions (so when I am allowed to finally retire at likely 80 odd I will get 50p a week back.......). I could quite comfortably continue as I am for a few more years minimum, but I would be so bored, plus I would like to still have something in the bank lol! I have given many thousands to insurance companies over the years and only real thing I have had in return bar the small amount of reassurance (but always tainted with trepidation from the industries reputation), is the ability to tax my cars lol. I almost bought that Fabia just to SORN and keep it for later..... In fact, I wonder if it's sold yet, would give me the excuse to get that private reg I want too  :D

But I must remember as my psychological state may be impaired by my high risk position in life, to keep my eyes on the road and not drift off into a daydream or something, while I am not too busy committing fraud of course... LOL :dull:

My cheapest GoCompare quote was conditional on full telematics due to my 'circumstances' But one broker I am a fairly long standing and current customer for with my bike insurance will match anything I get quoted, but with all my usual bells and whistles I like to have on my policies.

I reckon we could get you cover on the basis of you being a professional landlord. Whether you have an extra job or not is immaterial. Feel free to call us again and give Private Landlord as your occupation - I've spoken to the team supervisor and they agree that you're fine.

best,

Nick

This is why I like Chris Knott. Shame they couldn't get close on my last renewal quotes, sadly.
