Mk1 Fabia Vrs PD130 Vibration at Idle Issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm after some advice regarding a bad vibration at idle on my 2006 Mk1 Skoda Fabia Vrs Pd130. BLT engine code.

Brief history of my ownership so far of the car since I bought it just under a year ago with 70,000 miles on the clock.
24,000 miles later it still puts a smile on my face!
Not without it's hiccups though. The car didn't come with any paperwork besides the service book and the standard factory booklets. Which showed that the car had been serviced at all the recommended intervals etc apart from the latest one. So I had a full service by a reputable specialist in my area (Cambelt, fuel filter etc) at 74,000 and all was well so that I knew that all the essentials were fresh.
Few thousand miles later however i was loosing a lot of coolant from driving. Long story short and roughly £1000 spent on different bits the head gasket was diagnosed to be the problem which was eventually replaced at 84000.

Since then the car has been running well on the whole apart from a few niggly bits. I was getting a bad vibration at idle with the revs fluctuating by 25 rpm above and below 850rpm idle, since the cambelt would of had to have been taken of and re-timed.
Thankfully my dad has VCDS so I plugged it in and checked the torsion value to be out by a few degrees. Adjusted to 0.5-1 and as run better since giving a lot cleaner revving and better fuel economy as well as better start up.

This was okay for a little while until the vibration returned. Have rechecked the torsion value on VCDS and this hasn't changed. So I started to look elsewhere.

Read on various forums and it has gave me hundreds of different answers/solutions.

Here is what I have tried so far;

1) Vibration is the same whether clutch is pressed or depressed so not the DMF.
2) Cleaned out EGR valve etc when I did the timing so I'm fairly sure that is functioning okay.
3) Ran BP Ultimate/V-power diesel only for the last 6 fill ups to try and clear any possible 'gunk' in the fuel system.

All of which and little or no effect.
(It's worth noting that the car still pulls and drives really strongly through all the gears and revs well)

So I have started looking towards injector/cams

I've read that that Idle stabilization (Block 013) is a good place to start to see the health of the injectors.
So I did a quick log with the car fully up to temp on a 10 minute drive.
The results of which are confusing me.

At the start of the log (Stationary)  values at the start of the log @ roughly 850 rpm idle

-0.4 0.26 -0.52 0.71

Now all of this is new to me but these numbers don't seem to have a sensible/logical correlation to me?

Regardless throughout the log I found these numbers would change frequently after different throttle position/revs/speed etc which i'm lead to believe is normal?

However, the numbers on which the values settled at again when stationary in neutral  would be different every time. Could anyone shed some light as to why?
They ended up at the end of the 10 minute run on:

-0.75 0.56 -0.85 1.04

It is worth noting that the engine itself does vibrate quite violently on tickover in the engine bay but smooths out when revved.

Hopefully all of this makes sense and I have given you enough information to help me. If anything is unclear I will try my best to explain it clearer.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Joe
