Transport Suspension Blocks - How to know they're gone?

Featured Replies

Seriously from an outside perspective I think it's ridiculous that dealers are forgetting to remove the transport blocks from cars during the PDI. Having read on here it seems to be a very common problem.

I want to avoid being a victim of this issue - is there any way to know that, upon taking delivery, that the blocks have been removed?

How does it work? Is there one on each suspension shaft or are there more? How can I find them..? Does the car sit higher or only with some of the blocks?

Thanks guys..!

Wouldn't overthink it if I were you, yes it does happen but it is still pretty rare.

They are brightly coloured plastic blocks inserted only in the front springs to prevent compression.

You cannot see them clearly unless the car is jacked up allowing the suspension to droop at which point, and if present, they can be removed.

Apparently it is immediately obvious from the harsh ride so you should know from the first bump/hole you encounter when you drive off.

Cannot find any pictures for you at the moment.

At hand over best make the person doing it that you are concerned at the standard of PDI,

then check the Tyre Pressures, that gives an idea of how diligent they were. (Set your TPMS)

If the pressures are all over the place, time to check the Wheel Nut Tightness,

but then it is sensible to do that anyway,  dip the Oil when cold and see where that is on the stick.

Any issues or displeasure at the condition or presentation of your car, then do not just tell the Sales Staff, tell the Dealer Principal.

But,

hopefully you get a perfect car and enjoy that new car feeling.

Then run in the Tyres, Brakes, Suspension & Drive Train.

As someone who had the transport blocks left in - I hope I can help :)

Its very difficult to notice if the car isn't jacked up as the transport blocks are behind the shock absorber cover. They are easily seen if the car is jacked up as you can move the cover. As mentioned they are brightly coloured (blue and orange in my case) so are easy to spot.

Once on the road, they are very noticeable, if you hit a bump/pothole instead of the car absorbing the bump there will be a bit of a bang and the ride will feel very harsh. Be aware that the VRS has firm suspension anyway, but I noticed a huge difference without them in. They were only left in on one corner for me aswell. I did mention it in this thread (post 17):

The car doesn't sit any higher than normal if the blocks are left in place.

I hope this helps :)

Hi all - thank you for your replies..!

Gerrycan - thanks for that! I didn't know they were only secured to the front suspension.

Goneoffski - I agree re: tyre pressures. I've read many users here have had their tyres overinflated. Was that done at the factory for transport and the correct level then meant to be set during PDI?

Meb90 - I have to drool every time I see pics of your car. I think I'll say it to the guy doing the PDI if I could see the blocks. You know..from curiosity.. :nerd:

Ohh also - with my 2010 Elegance I got a free 1 litre bottle of Castrol Edge oil. Is that still the case with Skoda?

Don't look at my last post in my thread then :P hehe

Reasonable idea, definitely one thing to tick off the check list.
