VRS Radiator Part number confusion!

Featured Replies

As the weather has warmed up my radiator has suddenly sprung a leak from the bottom corner (I know its a common problem).

Its an 2007 Vrs S.E BLT Engine and the original radiator is part number 6Q0121253 AD which is well over £100 for OE.

ECP list one on their website (EIS Germany brand) for £35 and when I put my reg in it says it is the right one and replaces 6Q0121253 AD.... lovely I thought so off to ECP to buy it BUT when they bring the box out out the label on it (Part no: 203 44 2200) says it replaces 6q0121253 Q and 6q0121253 R ???

I know VAG superceed part numbers all the time but acording to VAGCAT the "Q and R" part numbers are for the ATD engine and even the sizes look different (One is 632mm x 414 and mine should be 630mm x 408)

Confused????...I am!!  Anyway my question is has anyone here fitted / tried fitting a ECP radiator to a VRS......does it fit???? Or shall I just go and give the dealers a load of my hard earned cash???

Thanks

i got 1 complete with fans ect off a 05 plate car if any good

I think what I will do is take the old one out and take it down there to measure it up, more than happy to give them £35 and get a new one with a warrenty but obviously its no good to me if it wont fit, but they are saying it will?? I will let you know how I get on!

ok well i'll have it in bits this weekend and can give u the part numbers and measurements

Not bought EIS myself but have been told they are cheap for a reason.

Do they not list a 'premium' one too?

Had an eis one, worked fine but the fan was slightly unbalanced and as such the car shaked when the fan kicked in

Thanks for the replies. I took my old rad out and went down to ECP. The EIS one that their website says fits the car is NOT a perfect fit, it is about 1cm less wide (from side to side), it would fit the car but would leave a bit of travel from side to side (Not ideal) also the holes for the fan cowling do not line up so you would have to re-drill new holes on the fan cowling and also cut a lump out of it as it would foul the fan switch!!!

This was done without taking it out of the box so I have no idea if the other side (Holes for the scews that hold the aircon radiator) is the same? So with the weather about to change for the worse I bit the bullet and went down to the VW garage round the corner and bought the proper one. Interestingly when I googled the part number (6Q0 121 253 AD) it seems that this is specific for the Fabia VRS and the the Polo GTI 1.8 turbo petrol only so I am wondering if it has more cooling cabability than the standard / cheaper rads??

Sounds like a lot of messing about with the ECP one!

How much was the genuine one and have you fitted it yet?

it was £115 +vat and 73p each for the 2 o' ring seals I am sure you could get it cheaper from TPS or an online dealer but soon as I already had the old one out and the other half needed it for work I went for the quick option.

Its all done and fitted with no messing about, also with the front end off the car its an absoloute doddle to whip the intercooler off and give it a clean out as they tend to accumulate dirty engine oil in the bottom of them over time.

My car vRS is in tomorrow for the same thing and I was going to use the EIS one but if it's a poor fit etc it's not worth it. I can't remember the TPS price but it was over £100 from memory. What's the part numbers for the 2 O ring seals and where do they go?

Edit only £104.74+vat at TPS so no massive saving on a new Fabia vRS radiator compared to a dealer.

I called back and asked for a discount and someone did me a favour and I have ordered it for £74.82+ vat. Worth asking!

Ok thanks for that so the one you got for £74.82 + vat is part number 6Q0 121 253 AD

Hi Fozzie. I just called to check my order and it is indeed the same part number. All I can say is someone did me a big favour on the price at TPS. I don't want anyone to get in trouble over this.

You had a right result there, my nearest TPS is right over at Milton Keynes but for a saving like that I would have gone over there...did they have it in stock or did they have to order it in though?? BTW part number for the o rings is N90765301 and obviously you need 2 of!!

Somebody contacted where i work for a radiator the other day, etka states the part number as 6Q0 121 253R.

Unfortunately after contacting the supplier we couldnt beat the quote the customer already had from skoda dealer, if you contact bickertons (skodaparts.com), they had genuine ones on for £95 inc vat.

Definatley AD on the end of the part number on my 07' plate VRS and as far as I am aware it has not been superceeded by a new part number as the new rad from VW had the excact same number.

Yep sorry AD is correct, the part that ended R, was a coolant hose that somebody else phoned about. Must be right about the weather as we has a few enquiries about radiators and hoses just in last couple of days, got too many part numbers running round my head and ive just started making my own up lol.

Both are actually listed for vRS (in 2007 which I've just looked up). The R suffix one doesn't seem to be recommended where the climate is warm, or the car has aircon; so as said earlier in the thread, the AD suffix one must have more heat-transfer ability, possibly slightly thicker?

Hi

Just picked up the AD one this morning. I hope it fits. Dropping the car at the garage for it to be done next week, today

I forgot to pick up the o rings so hope I get away with it. Or the garage can order from TPS if needed.

Car has aircon and is a 2004 vRS.

I would treat yourself to a couple of the O-rings, at 73p each it's got to be worth it?

32 x 4 mm is the spec. if you can't get genuine ones in time.  They fit inside the plastic hose fittings to seal them to the radiator hose stubs, and after 11 years of heat-cycling will surely have lost much of their compliance.

Thanks Wino I have told the mechanic to order a set of O rings.

100% I would change them you could see the difference between the ones that came out and the new ones, wish I had taken a photo now they had shrunk a lot!!
