Window tinting

Featured Replies

Hey all, don't know if this is the right section but here we go;

As I'd rather the children not go blind in the car I was thinking of tinting the back windows of mine and the Mrs cars. Has anyone done this, what did you use, did you find any guides to help in the process?

Cheers!

Kyle

oh and I am loathe to do this (aka chav look) but the children and passengers attack sun shades so I figured this would be the best option.

Cheers for the link NM,didn't realise you were so close!

Yep I'd like to take the professional route,as there's someone in the darts league who has a business doing this, but couldn't really afford this on mates rates for one car let alone two!

You can diy but its not easy . I have a guy locally that i use for my cars , he is really good and makes it lok incredibly easy , I have done it once but never again

Hey Kyle - having seen the top job they did on NM's car - i wouldn't look much further than this.

Quality job at a very reasonable price indeed

Having seen what's involved in doing this properly with the correct tools, sharp blades, good quality tint film and the process of cutting, shrinking and sticking on the film, I wouldn't DIY.

The cheap stuff on ebay is dyed as well and will turn purple after not very long.

These guys removed my tints when I bought the car (illegal front tints, limo rear tints- looked awful) and were well priced and swift with their service. The quality of their work on cars outside the premises looked to be very good, so they might be worth a call for you:

Cheers all, how much would I be realistically be looking at to just do the rear doors? So I know what is a decent and what is a stupid price.

Please pm if you'd rather not post on here.

I was quoted £120 for 3 windows

You need to ring a few tinters or check google for prices in your local area before you make your own judgements on what's stupid and what's decent.

You want the job done inside a unit, with good quality film (3M/Llumar/Ultimate - there is another but I can't remember the brand name) - a good quality film is usually guaranteed and around here that costs anywhere from £89 all in for a five door car (including the rear quarter windows) to £150/180 + VAT upwards.

Bearing in mind a set of sunblinds is £70 (or at least double that for OE Skoda blinds), then the prices aren't too bad. Add to that the cost of the job, unit, power, tools, 2 hours labour, tint film, etc. £89 is pretty good.

The link I provided is the guy who is contracted to Jaguar, Ferrari, John Holland in Sheffield & he uses Suntek which carries a 10yr guarantee.
