Flashing coil light (intermittant) , engine symbol and limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Like my Skoda, but not very technical when it comes to cars.

2010 1.9CR diesel, running well, just over 100K mileage.

On a return run from Lakes to Manchester, car dropped out of CC with no prior warning- flashing coil and limp mode.  As it happened, an AA man was right in front - flashed him and he suggested it is a sensor issue, try a restart - did this, all OK.

Happened again next day.  Comes and goes.

After reading here about a regen (?) , took it for a blast ( 55mph on 3rd, 3000 revs for 15 mins)  and it was OK.

Till the morning.  coil light and limp mode back on at switch on.

Local guy ( who is great and knows his stuff, specialised in VW group stuff) in North Manchester about to have a look.

Should I request the pressure sensor G450 is done first, before the whole EGR expense is considered ??  - from a browse here, it seems to give the same symptoms and is far cheaper.

Not sure 2010 CR engine would have the revision of the G450 that suffered all the issues but I had the same prob on my 2007 VRS PD and it was the sensor... do a quick search on here as there are many threads on it one of which I know had the old/new part number..

If that doesnt cure your issue then def check the EGR/Antishudder and have it cleaned.... all else fails its the VNT in the turbo sticking... best place to start though is with a full scan of the car with VCDS or VAGCOM and see what errors are recorded....

To the OP, just to clarify, which engine do you actually have? A 2010 1.9 will be PD rather than CR, and won't have a DPF or pressure sensor.

A 2010 CR will be either 1.6 or 2.0 and both of those did have a DPF.

Its a 2010 1.6 CR - sorry, typo.

The code os egr position 2. Garage is sure its the egr air cooler assembly that is needed - £600 ish, fitted.

2010 1.6 CR

Same as ours. EGR valve replaced two months ago. (80K on clock). £800 including diagnostic check at Skoda main dealer. Only found out afterwards that Skoda UK "good will" should've been considered as car has full service history at Skoda main dealer from where we purchased new. (Not the one that did the EGR work). Got £215 back from Skoda UK. :)

Edit - Use 'Ultimate Diesel' every 4th fuel to help keep it clean in future.

Take it off and clean it with carb cleaner or something of that nature... A competent mechanic should be able to do it..

have a watch of this as i think its the right engine and part you are referring to

Due to the egr being at the back of the engine its a bugger to get off, without removing other parts like drive shaft and other parts, its a well documented problem with the egr and skoda will give good will gestures,

I don't know if the part has been modified on later models.
