1.9 Battery

Featured Replies

I need to replace the battery in my 08 1.9 tdi  Roomster 3, looking on ECP, it will take either a 027 or 096 battery, currently it has a 027 which I believe is the original battery fitted.

Any reason to upgrade to the 096 or just stick with the 027 spec?

The one I bought recently for my 1.9 was a S5005 Bosch Battery which is supposed to have a 5 year warranty, and cost my £65.

I would say with a diesel engine go for the best you can get

Due to the size a cheap 096 will often have more capacity and CCA than even a high end 027. This a looks like a decent deal for a battery with 5 year warranty.

I think "officially" 027 is the correct size, so I'd measure your battery tray first. I've got an 096 in my 57 1.9TDI Roomster 3, it was a snug fit but went in without any modification.

An update on this, I got an Exide Premium 027 from ECP in the end,  Removing the plastic battery cover was the biggest challenge, along with the alarm going off, but the car fired up first time when fitted.

The old (original) battery was totally dead, the car seems to have a bit more life about it now, and fuel consumption seems to have decreased, not sure how/if this is related to the change in battery
