Faulty Injector - Injector cleaner

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We picked up my brothers 2006 1.2 HTP Fabia yesterday aware that it might have a dodgy injector. The garage had swapped the injectors around, 1 to 3 which we thought had solved the issue. However 10 miles down the road the car went into limp mode.

We reset it with VAG COM and did another 15 odd miles before it did it again. Reset with VAG COM and carried on. It made it home without going into limp mode (25 further miles) and today we started and stopped it a few times without any problems.

The issue according to VAG COM is the injector, now no 3.

We bought some injector cleaner after speaking to someone at Motorworld and researching on the net, before my brother goes to the expense of having to replace it we thought it would be worth a go.

Tonight I took it out for a run armed with VAG COM. It did 4 miles before we reached a set of traffic lights, and after setting off again it went into limp mode.

We got to a layby, reset it and then straight away it put the engine light on after starting, though it wasn't quite in limp mode (pulled above 2000rpm).

I stopped further up the road, reset, and again the engine light came on, and providing it was above 2000rpm it doesn't go into limp mode.

I had to do this quite a few times to run us back home (having covered 15 miles up to the second reset).

I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on this? I said it might be the injector cleaner working and cleaning it up. Or is it failing completely?

I said to my brother that we should let it work its way through (just under 3/4 tank to go!).

I would be most grateful for your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

What's the fault code that VCDS (new name for vagcom) is reporting?

If it's still unambiguously blaming one injector, I would acquire a spare secondhand set from eBay, which will be much cheaper than a single new one. I paid £25 including fuel rail, a year or two back.

You can also resistance check the suspect injector, and have a good look at the wiring, but I think moving it has proved it wasn't wiring already.

Hi there, I am richardsfavorit's brother and I have the Fuel injector trouble. Toxicvrs, If it ever comes to it do you think you maybe able to send them to us (one of them)????

My Dad has talked to our local garage about it today and they have said to run the injector cleaner right through until its really low in the tank so that we use the injector cleaner so we know whether I have to spend money or not on a new injector.

Now that I've woken up a bit, I realise that you need to be a little careful that you get the correct part number if buying secondhand. What's the engine code? I think for a 2006 1.2 it will be BMD if 6-valve, or AZQ or BME if 12-valve.  Within those categories there still seems to be a choice of part numbers, depending on manufacture date.

This page shows the two options for 12-valve engines around 2006. 03E906031 for cars made up to the 28/05/2006, and 03E906031C for those made on or after 29/05/2006.

This one shows the two options for 6-valve engine; 03D906031C for earlier, 03D906031G for later engines. You'll need to look at the VIN number to see which of these applies, work backwards from the right hand end of the number to see which range yours falls into.   Can help with that if it doesn't make sense.

Looking at an injector off the car is the most definitive check, not sure if the part number is visible when they're installed.

Hi Wino, Thank you for your response, Yep the engine is is BME I think. However I am not at home at the moment, So I would Have to check later on. I even looked at the engine code at the weekend and I am sure it is BME.

Thank you for your response and those pages are very good. I have a Haynes manual and manuals for the car at home and I will have a look tonight.

Thank you

You're Ludlow way aren't you?

Well my brother works near Ludlow or in it, not too sure. So I will talk to him tonight about it, and he will know all about these posts because he setup this thread.

He may be able to pick one up if it comes to it. We are going to let the injector cleaner go through first.

Thank you for your post.

Hi Toxicvrs, Yes it is definitely BME, I have checked with my Dad and if it comes to it I would like a injector off you, I just hope those injectors correspond with my engine code, BME. However we would like a day or so. This is because we can use all the injector cleaner up and see if it works. If it doesn't I will let you know on this thread, So make sure that you follow it.

If you could keep a injector to the side if those correspond to my engine, it would be really helpfull if you could. Where are you in Ludlow? (You may not want to say on here, so message me on here or message my brother that started this post). Brother and I are in Newtown area and my brother works in Ludlow.

Thank You!!   :D  :sun:

Also Toxicvrs, Do you have any Skoda Fabia mk 1, 2, 3's where you are that are ready for scrap and that can have parts off them? I also need a few other part other than a fuel injector. :dull:

What do you need mate? :)

What do you need mate? :)

Also another question, I really want to know that those injectors are for a Skoda Fabia 1.2 HTP 2006 64bhp, to start off with and are they? My car is a petrol. Also if you have the right injector for my car, What would you pay for the injector?

Well I need:

roof lining,

front right (or if driving left) fog cover,

boot carpet, - Important

boot shelf, - important

rear left light cover,

??mud flaps?? - not important,

Radio - maybe??

gear nob?? - Maybe??

Thank You!!

The fault codes - for information are as follows -

2 Faults Found:
16587 - Injector: Cylinder 3 (N32)
            P0203 - 35-10 - Circuit Malfunction - Intermittent
16687 - Cylinder 3
            P0303 - 35-10 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent
Readiness: 0010 0101

The engine is a BME.

As mentioned Wino, I would want the injector out and the part number off it to be sure. :)

Mines a 54 HTP, will pull codes tomorrow :)

Got lining, will check condition, got fog light cover, rear left light cover as in carpet or bulb holder?

Never had mud flaps,

Radio has already gone to someone

And I should have a gear knob kicking about too :)

Toxicvrs, Thank you very much indeed, How much for all that lot if the engine codes were the same?

Carpet I meant. Also have you got a boot rack and a hinge (left front passenger door, bottom hinge).

Thank you very much again,

He also needs a rear near side light cluster and rear wiper arm. Cheers Toxicvrs.

Can sort most of that, won't be able to pull it off until weekend though.

Just a bit more of an update on this tonight as both my father and I took it for separate runs out cover a total of 50 miles to try and get the injector cleaner through. My brother wants to learn to drive in this so its not feasible with it running the way it currently does.

My dad took it for a 20 mile run and the engine light was on and he drove it above limp mode most of the time (over 2000rpm) with it mis-firing.

I believe he reset it 4 times whilst out.

I then took it for a run having had the engine light reset and no limp mode or engine management light. I covered 7 to 8 miles before the engine light came on, on a mix of road types, round town and having to stop 3 times for junctions. I stopped in a layby about 2 miles later and reset it. Immediately on starting the engine it was running rough and after getting out of the layby the engine light was on. Again I drove it above 2000rpm to ensure no limp mode, to try and pull the fuel through.

I reset it again after a bit and then it did another 7 or 8 miles without the engine light on. Driving it at a range of speeds, although mostly higher revs to try and get the injector cleaner through.

Heading into town again though (slowly behind a lorry) the engine light kicked in, so I stopped to reset. As soon as I set off the light was on again and its harder to keep above 2000rpm in town so inevitably limp mode kicked in. Around town it seems worse...

I just wondered what peoples thoughts are on this. Should we use the rest of the injector cleaner up with it running rough and keep taking it out to pull the cleaner though?

My father and brother both think the injector has to be done. Im more inclined to think the cleaner may work if it ran a bit better tonight. :|

Thanks again Toxicvrs - no urgent rush for it, though he needs it at some point! :)

Sounds like injector isn't distributing properly and needs physically cleaning

I'd swap injectors 1&3 over, if misfire and codes switch to cylinder 1 it's the injector unit, stays at 3 then it's a loom issue :)

Thanks Toxicvrs.

The garage apparently swapped 1 to 3 before we got it, hoping that by moving it (I don't know if any cleaning was done), that it might solve the problem.

My father then drove it on Saturday 20 miles without issue. We left it at the garage then until later (as we had two cars already with us - long story!) anyway picked it up 4 hours later and it drove fine for 15 miles before going into limp mode. :dull:

It did it again 20 miles later, before making it the last stretch of the journey without a reset.

I think the cleaner might be disturbing it up as I had two reasonable runs in it tonight. Though compared to Saturday these were shorter.
