2.0TDI fuel consumption?

Ok , there are quite a few of you that have had 2.0TDI octavias for a while now.

How are they doing on fuel , and do you mostly do motorway , town or mixed driving? If you have done manual calculations as well , how does the figure on the trip compute compare?

If it's likely to be the wrong side of 50mpg for mostly motorway miles then that would put me off quite a bit.

I haven't done any manual calculations (beyond my rough calculations of whether I'm still getting more than 100 miles out of each tenner - which I am, just about), but if you're doing a lot of motorway miles, and you're not caning it, then I think you could expect the right side of 50mpg. My commute to work involves a mixture of motorway and A road over about 25 miles, and on a good day (gentle driving, no hold ups) I can get to the office with the average consumption showing on the computer between 53 and 55.

Having said that, if you drive enthusiastically (and the 2.0 encourages you to), then you'll be down in the mid 40's. It's definitely not as economical as my old 1.9TDi Superb was, but the DSG probably affects it a bit too.

If economy's your main thing, the 1.9 is probably a better bet

Trouble is the 1.9 is going to be slower than my current Mk1 1.9 TDI (110bhp) and I'd be reluctant to spend more than last time on a slower car.

I do a mixed commute, A roads, town, Motorway. I get low forties on the trip in through town driving (drop off at nursery) and get low fifties on trip home (mainly motorway). The average Trip comp shows 45-46 mpg. If your doi mainly motorway and driving 'normally' you'll get low to mid fifties.

Slightly off topic, has anyone had one re mapped yet, our 110 Tdi was a bit better on mpg after mapping

I normally get just over 50 mpg on a mixed batch of driveing, have seen 71.2 mpg average on my 2 mile journey to work before :eek: When towing normally get about 36mpg towing 1100kg, a tankfull always seems to last more than 500 miles :thumbup:

I get high 30's - low 40's on my way to work, which is mainly town driving with a mix of speed limits and right foot pressure. On motoway distances I tend to get high 40's low 50's with the cruise control on so with it off you should easily get into the 50's if you are not doing silly speeds.

I must be doing something wrong, the only time I can even get the av' MPG into the fifties is to get on to the motorway and reset the computer then set the cruise on about 65mph, other than that my average hovers around 40-45mpg. Mines a 1.9 TDi by the way :)

I'm not sure about these on-board computers anyway. My total mileage reads 7 miles different on the main read out that you do with the stalk switch, than on the trip/overall readout you do with the pushbutton in the speedo dial.

Mine's on 48.something. Trip comp never been reset in 38k miles.

My average over 5000 miles is I think without going to look on 43-45mpg. I did expect better that that, but doing a 15 mile round journey to work probably doesn't help. I don't seem to go over 50 on other trips that often, then again I do tend to boot it on motorways etc.

In the first 2200 miles of mine I've averaged around 44. The worst I have managed on a single trip was 36.6, but I was absolutely caning it for 30 miles.

I'm not sure it would be slower though. The performance figures for the1.9 Mk V Golf and OctyII are almost identical but Skoda upped the torque to handle the extra weight. Unless they did the same thing with the Octy I and Mk IV Golf, you are likely to see better performance if anything.

My 2.0 TDI has averaged 52.0 mpg since January according to the computer. Normally get between 550-570 miles out of a tank. Best figures I've had are 67.9 mpg on a 45 mile motoroway journey sat at 70 mph.

Round town I get 40-45mpg and on the motorway I see 50+ mpg in my Mondeo TDCI :D I don't hang about either ;)

I usually get 48-50 but as the speedo is about 5% fast I assume that the computer will be reading fast as well so I guess a true figure is more like 46ish

Mine is a 2.0 TDi with DSG. Ignoring the average consumption figures shown in the Computer, mileage between fill-ups is around 620 (miles, not K's!): mostly m-way, with some urban. Not re-mapped at present: booked in with Jabbasport via Group Buy in mid-Nov, so will post opinion when done & tested. Because of the DSG box, there is a more stringent torque limit on remaps, but Jabbasport reckon on 175 BHP/285 lbs/ft. This should make for a pretty rapid vehicle: I am assured that the economy is hardly affected by the re-mapping.

Skodas quoted figures for the II has it at 11.8 seconds 0-60 instead of 11.2 for the I

It might have to be a new civic instead which on paper is faster than the 2.0 octavia and more economical than the 1.9

I knew this was coming. I'm not saying it's a fact, just that you might be surprised. 0-60 doesn't mean much anyway. I'd be more interested in the 30-50 & 50-70 mph figures as these relate better to everyday driving and are the most affected by torque.

When I was looking for a diesel company car a while back I had a look at the 2.2 Accord. Good car but lacking in extras and too much money. Used to have a petrol Civic so I tried a new Civic diesel. Not overly impressed and not only that, i'm on pretty good terms with one of the diectors of the dealership after bringing my old Civic to them over the years. He knows his motors and says the 1.7 Honda Engine is a world apart from the 2.2. They also have a Seat dealership and his advice if I insisted on diesel was to go for a new Leon. Quality not the same but better to drive due to the 1.9 PD engine. He said the trouble with the 1.7 was that it was Honda's first go at a diesel engine.

The 2006 Civic is a cracking looking motor and will be like **** off a shovel with that 2.2 diesel engine in it too. As for me well i've been smitten by the VAG 2.0TDi engined OctyII. The VAG 2.0TDi puts most other non VAG manufacturers to shame for mid range pull even though there are more efficient and quieter lumps out there like the Honda 2.2. If you love that effortless uphill acceleration feeling you get from a good diesel you might be a little dissapointed by the Honda 2.2 diesel because it felt very petrol like to me. It wins of course on fuel economy but if like me you don't do big miles, you might find it hard to justify the money for less metal than if you went for an OctyII. Let us know what you choose anyway. Be interesting to hear.

Well either its the 115, its chipped or you really aren't trying. I did 112k miles in 3 years in a std 130 and it never managed more than 40. I did manage 144mph on the speedo which was showing 134 on the satnav, though, whereas I've only had the Octy to 130 on the clock. :(
