Boost gauge wiring...

Featured Replies

I've finally got round to buying a boost gauge for the Fabia, which I'm planning on fitting this week.

I'm not 100% on the wiring though. I've got the option of taking the feeds from the headlight wiring or from the stereo. However, I'm not sure what the wires are on the headlight switch.

My boost gauge needs both permanent and ignition live, dimmer and earth.

Can anyone advise on if these wires are available in the headlight switch, and if so which is which please?! Will save me some hassle trying to interpret the Haynes diagrams along with much test lamp fiddling!

I took my feeds all from the headlight switch Alex, it has a perm live and also an ignition live to it.

I just used a volt meter to find out which wire did which, didn't take too long to figure it all out and I earthed it to the dash supports.

Nice one. As long as they have everything I need then that's good.

I guess I'll just have to get busy with my test lamp...

did you manage to do this? on my boost guage I've got a black wire and a yellow one, which do they go to?

Black will be earth, yellow will be a 12v feed

Yeah I did it ages ago pal. Check out my project thread for pictures.

There's far too many wires from your headlight switch to just guess though. You need to get a test lamp in there and find the correct ones. I needed permanent, ignition and switched lives on mine due to the evening dimmer.

is it a case of black to black and yellow to yellow then mate?

or would the black wire on the guage need to be to a different wire?

Most definitely not pal!

You need to get a test lamp into the connectors of the plug and see what ignition live you can find to power it.

No need to bother trying to locate an earth in the wiring. Just earth the gauge out on the metal fuse box surround.
