Variable Servicing

Featured Replies

Just be careful when booking it in for a service if you choose to use a Skoda main dealer.

Using the link posted above you will notice that there is very little between the £139 minor service and £259 major service.

In fact for your car the only additional items are the air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter - nothing else.

Now here is the issue, these extra items are only replaced "when required" so given your low mileage and the young age of your car these extra parts are not yet needed and will not be changed during a major service.

So essentially you would be paying £259 for a £139 oil and filter service.

My advice would be to get the oil and filter changed (the most important bits) and then decide for yourself if you would like the pollen, air and fuel filters changing. These can be added from the dealers 'menu pricing' as extras if required. The annoying thing is even with the £139 oil change and the extra's added on separately the total bill is still often less than the £259 major service!

And does anybody knows the other service needs? Just buying a used mk2 superb 125kw / dsg, and the service book doesnt say top much.

F.e when the belt should be changed?

Thx for help

The timing belt interval is based on both mileage and age.

Here in the UK we have a 5 year time interval on cambelts on all diesel engines, although this does vary from country to country.

Mileage also varies from engine to engine. I've known two CR140 engines have different mileage limits when using the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) displayed in the windscreen to check with Skoda UK.

The best thing to do is speak with your local dealer or ring Skoda head office in Hungary.

The only other 'extra's' you may need is the DSG gearbox oil and brake fluid but again I would imagine these intervals vary from region to region. Brake fluid here in the UK for example is at 3 years old (from new) and then every 2 years there after.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way!  :sun:

Thx for the details.

This forums looks very active.

Yeah, i'll check this locally to be sure.

The car is from 2011 with 129k km.

So should be on the limit somewhere.;)

Cheers

I reckon you'll be OK yet, 129,000 km's = 80,000 miles.

2011 = 4 years old.

My 2011 CR140 is on 75,000 miles so we are pretty close!

I'm sure I'll hit the UK's blanket 5 year interval before the mileage (the mileage limit on my VIN is 140,000 miles).

Your car is set to variable. Variable is up to (approx) 20,000 miles / 2 years.

An 'inspection' is a major service, a 'service' is a minor service / oil and filter change. See here:

http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/default

There are two triggers for a service, time (days) and distance (mileage), whichever is reached first. 153 days is (approx) the time remaining until you reach the 2 year interval.

The reason the mileage is 10,000 miles is because it is counting down. You have already covered 9,000 miles, add this to the 10,000 miles remaining and this takes you to around the 20,000 mile max mileage allowed between service intervals. Your car has not yet had its first service.

Personally given your low mileage I'd be having the car serviced at least once a year (10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever is reached first). I prefer fresh oil at least once every winter. Remember the oil is the life blood of the engine and turbo. Variable servicing is more suited to high mileage / motorway usage and fleet drivers looking to minimise servicing costs.

I think you will find that the £139 service is for cars between 3 and 10 years old.... as I found out when I received a cars from Skoda telling me my car was due it's service. .. up to 3 years old is £179

If you read towards the bottom of the link... the small print it states 3 to 10 years...

Altough my car is on variable service and is just 12 months old on Saturday I have only done 6500 miles, so I am changing to annual/fixed intervals

Yeah it's in the small print but both DM Keith in York and Pulman in Durham price matched on my 2 year old Superb.

Am I wide of the mark (and Skoda's warranty requirements) by supplying a local garage Quantom long life oil while they get a proper Skoda/Volks oil filter* and do my oil change at 10,000 and 20,000 (with air and fuel filters) the letting Skoda do it at 30,000 at its 1st birthday to get software updates, etc?

*I can have the filter delivery note

With my Citroen van (LWB) I never let a dealer touch it apart from warranty ( a regular occurrence ) my HGV guys serviced it

Ill give Citroen 1 plus point, they never argued and only ever looked at the service book......id stamped that at my mates though....lol

(but they were serious HGV fleet workshops for Norflex and BT, etc)

but seriously, the Citroen (car) dealer never knew what to do or even when they could and the van was my income, the clutch plate warped at 15,000 requiring removal of the gearbox (mounted on the N/S) and missed the front N/S suspension top mounting was goosed, yet they had jacked it up and the wheel was stopping on the floor!

then there was the 4 day wheelbearing replacement, 1 injector (£500) 3 engine wiring looms, engine and gearbox mounts........
