Handbrake Cable

Featured Replies

Quick question: When tightening the handbrake cable on a Fabia Classic, do you have to remove the whole of the plastic centre column or can you do it through the gap under the little rectangular holder that comes out?

Cheers

I did mine through the gap.  A 10mm ratchet spanner with a flexible head makes the job easier.

Yes same as above only I used a deep offset ring spanner.

as above posts......................

Adjust from the drums preferably rather than this adjustment

Handbrake adjustment 'nuts' are in the same spot on the vRS I assume? No different being discs at the back is it?

I don't want to have to take the arm rest, bracket adapter and console out that's all.

Or is it just as easy to adjust at the calipers on the back?

It's the same as any other Fabia :)

Excellent link thank you TMB, but to clarify, I'll be able to reach the adjustment nut through the rear cubbyhole then will I? I'll have a look at it tomorrow.

Yes, just pull out item 8 or 8A depending on what your car has...

As recommended above, adjust your rear shoes first before touching the cable with drum brakes.

There is no adjustment at caliper,it auto adjusts the handbrake mech.

Just make sure your handbrake arms are returning fully to the stops before adjusting the cable, and then do not over adjust the cable.

The handbrake arms on rear calipers must be able to return to the stops with handbrake off otherwise the internal auto adjuster in the caliper will not work :)

Excellent, thank you very much for your concise and clear explanation!

I will bear that in mind, I've been told before not to 'over tighten' the cable. I don't think I will go far wrong with the workshop manual diagrams from TMB's first link. Thanks again.
