Power Steering and Accelerator Recall

Featured Replies

I've just had my car serviced today I've pickled it up and drive around, maybe 10 miles max since having the car back and it feels rather 'boaty' if that's the right word to use? Car feels like it's going to topple over around any corner? It used to be rather crasshy and hard on bumps but not it kind of springs up and down over them, I don't like it!!

Was just wondering whether the recall would have anything to do with this and what it actually does to the car? If anything? I'm not very impressed that the car feels completely different to when I dropped it off this morning, anyone else experienced the same?

Also to add onto this... I've barely got over 32 mpg on the computer reading whilst driving? I normally her high 30's sometimes 40mpg driving around town, just seems odd.

Are the tyre pressures wildly different from before?

^^^^I've had this happen twice, they over inflated them by 6psi. It did feel very bumpy over the rough stuff and I knew there was something wrong.

To be honest I haven't checked them as I've only just got it back and haven't been out since, will got the garage tomorrow and check the pressures and let you know, just seems very strange

It's surprising how much tyre pressures can change things.

I've checked tyre pressure and they are at 34psi on the front, 36 on the back. What should they be? Either way I've tried putting air in and taking some out and it makes no difference at all.

Tyre pressures are listed for your vehicle on the inside of the fuel filler flap behind the ice scraper. Note though the figures are listed in bar rather than psi (1 bar = 14.5 psi approx).

Have found from my own experience 0.2 bar difference from the manufactures figures can be enough to change the feel of the car.

Should be 32 psi. I asked the salesman when I bought mine, he didn't know & had to go back into the workshop & ask a mechanic.

There's nothing on the recall that could have this affect on your car.

Can I take it that these aren't instant "have to be done" jobs since that the garage that I bought my car from haven't contacted me about them?

Then again I'll be surprised if they actually bother to contact me when it's due a service

My car's not due its first service until the end of November.

Had no contact from either Skoda UK or the supplying dealer informing me our car needed updates, that is until the call from the local Skoda dealer two days before the car went in for its service.

So no I don't think its a critical situation and in my case the car was behaving as I would expect with no indication there was an underlying issue.

I'd give your garage a ring if I were you. If they are a Skoda dealer they will know about the recall. My dealer (Simpsons) rang me in March & I had mine done. Not much of a garage If they can't be bothered informing you.

That's not right!

There are three different official sizes of wheels which have three different recommended tyre pressures. Please check the manual or next to the filler cap.

Unfortunately this is the case

Used to get a letter in the post regarding these sorts of things but not anymore [emoji57]

Safety recalls are published on the VOSA website.

Neither an electric steering reprogram or an accelerator that sticks on are safety related - apparently.

that's when they were proper recalls,

not the skoda equiv called a "service campaign"

but then we are getting into the contentious area of when is a recall a recall

With my Citigo they posted a letter to me. But with the Rapid nothing but they did say mine doesn't flag up for them when I asked. It must be a pre August 14 thing as mine was built after that.

Sounds right - mine was built in Feb 14 and needs both.

Must be something they have fiddled with/tweeked on the service then?? Feels really bouncy and wobbly over bumps now, before the service, it was pretty solid and crashy, which I kind of liked and got used too. I guess ill get used to this new feel now, but im going to phone the garage up and get it looked at for peace of mind.

Neither the filler cap or manual tell you what the correct pressure is. That is why I asked when I first collected the car. I was told 32 psi. I have 15 " wheels on mine.

I believe it's the official manual... ;)

Phoned the dealer and they said the technician that worked on my car reset all the tyre pressures whilst in for the service. Surely this isn't going to make the suspension spongy and boat like? That's the best way I can describe it!

They're ringing me back at some point today to see if it could be anything else as well.

Had a look at that, complete waste of time. All it tells you is that the tyre pressures are listed on the filler flap. Just checked mine now & there is no PSI number given, which is what we need in the UK. It might as well be written in Japanese for what use it is. Thanks anyway.
