It's on the blank.  There is a flat tab sticking out with a narrower bit on the end, cut the narrower bit down so the end is flush and hey presto!

Or launch rockets

So it IS constantly turning, correct?

Yes, constantly compressor is turning and the refrigerant is being pushed through the system but there is almost no compression happening so the artificial cooling doesn't work - even if you have it set to "Cold" on a 38 degree day.  The system simply increases the fan speed in the hope that it will flush the hot air out of the car - there is no artificial cooling affect whatsover.

I was simply refuting SMC998's theory that the system would cool if needed.  It will heat on econ.  It was 13 when I left for work this morning and I have mine set on 19/econ and the 1000w heater started immediately until the engine warmed & the heat exchanger took over.

Get some stickers like this Yeti owner for the blank switches  :D

Does the 2005 octavia elegance estate have the electric heater ?

This feature wasn't available on UK spec cars.

ISTR some of the very last CR engined mk2 UK Octavias did get the additional heater? Was only from about 2012 MY onwards I think? A 2005 definitely won't have one though.

Looking at the last of the FL UK brochures it is indeed listed as a factory option:

Independent heating for diesel engines** £1.015 inc. VAT.

**independent heating allows the driver to begin heating up the car by remote control so frosty windows can clear without scraping.

That's the Website heater, not the glorified fan heater. The battery couldn't support a 1kW draw without the engine running.

I thought it was the mains powered heater they have in cars in Canada and Norway for example or the fuel powered preheater they use in the coldest parts of Canada.

That's what I was trying to type - Webasto.

I think the electric heater was fitted to certain UK models at no extra cost. I remember a few people on here with late 2.0 CRs mentioning that if they switched the climate control to max heat they would get warmth out of the heater straight away with a stone cold engine.

As trundlenut says, no way that system would run for long purely on battery power. After buying a new inverter once I decided to test it by running a 1kw domestic fan heater from a spare car battery. It coped for a few seconds but it didn't half make the battery bubble before I chickened out and switched it off!

I just use a blow lamp soon defrosts the windows

At 12V a 1kW heater draws over 80amps!
