Courtesy car a seal lol

Featured Replies

Ok i i went to my local Skoda, to pick up a few replacement screws... and i mentioned that the body seal (think they call it) that i replaced 5 weeks ago has come loose. I think it cost £16 or something, i was hoping to be given another at best, but was expected to be fobbed off..

Instead i have been told to book the car in for the day!! So they can check it, remove it, assess it, and replace it. And i get a courtesy car ... I did stay that seemed excessive and i would be happy with just a replacement, as im just guessing that it was either a old part, and the adhesive was past its best, or not enough/ strong enough adhesive was on there etc. I was told that it need to be thoroughly checked as if its a bad batch others maybe effected, and there would be a claim against their supplier.

I did explain, that i felt i did everything thoroughly, stripping the old adhesive with, remover. Used Isopropyl and then washed it down, let it dry for a few hours then fitted it.

How ever, im a little uneasy about this, as all i can add up is a seal £16 does not equate to courtesy car + new part + fitting.

Im worried they are going to bill me after!!

I haven't asked for any of it lol.

What do you think? Should i be commending them for being extra vigilant, or worried that they will try and sting me ?

Reckon just get them to agree in writing that you will only be charged for the seal. Once that's done, commend away...

Where on the car is this 'body seal', and what does it seal?

I'd grease yourself up in preparation if I were you... :D

Full length of the car between doors and body.

They'll probably fit a new seal for free, and then tell you about the 17 things they've found wrong with the car requiring their urgent attention, trying to scare you into parting with a grand to fix the five most urgent ones. Just say NO. :D

....or maybe they'll tell him he needs to part-ex it for the latest model Fabia :D

Well i have not agreed to nor asked them to stick their nose anywhere other than near the seal... but i will be waiting for the "before we carry out any work, its policy for one of out engineers to ensure your vehicle is safe to work on"

And no ty to the latest fabia, much to bland until a vrs option or similar is available.
