Spotify Album Art

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I picked up my car last Friday and so far I'm loving it...Its probably the first car I have ever spent more time in the first week on a laptop configuring music than I have actually driving it but have almost everything over to SD now and all album art etc working...However, when I play anything from Spotify over Bluetooth I don't get album art...From reading posts on here I see some people are getting album art and I just wondered if there is a setting I'm missing?...My set up would be as follows

Bolero, fairly sure its MIB1 (w/Canton although that would not make any diff to album art)

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact running Lollipop

Its not a deal breaker but it would be so cool to get it running...It might even make up for the whole 'start another music player and then flip over to spotify otherwise the track info won't appear' thingy...But thats a Spotify issue (don't look this up on the Spotify forum unless you have a lotta time to read it, over 300 posts and counting!)

I do on my Columbus, but I use a lead and my iphone.

I use Spotify over Bluetooth on my columbus, some albums display the artwork some dont.

I get this occasionally on my Golf with the equivalent of Columbus i.e the Discover Nav Pro, in that over bluetooth some albums would show and some just showed a generic graphic. Basically I've been told that the bluetooth doesn't read any album artwork, but if the album being played exists within the Gracenote database (stored internally on the HDD), then it will try and match a album cover where possible. If the album doesn't exist in the database, a generic graphic will be displayed.

That's what I was told by a senior VW tech anyway, and I sort of proved it by streaming 2 albums over bluetooth - one quite old and one brand new. The older one displayed the artwork where as the newer album didn't. Just to prove I then slipped the original CD's of both albums into the DVD slot in the Glovebox, and sure enough the same result, and the CD's can only display via the Gracenote database.

Ah right so...given that there is no internal HDD on the Bolero Gracenote won't exist to be read from so if, as you say, it doesn't read any artwork over bluetooth then that is that...Pity

I don't think anything actually transmits the artwork over A2DP, it is how it handles the metadata though that will result in a match to the Gracenote database

I didn't think so either its just that I had read elsewhere that other headunits were but maybe those users are mixing up gracenote intergration and BT capability....No bother, like I say its not a dealbreaker
