New to Forum - possibly a new Octy III owner

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I am hoping to be a proud owner of a used Octy III on Saturday, it is a Race Blue 2.0 TDI Elegance (reg YP63 TUJ). Although this forum is not the most logical place to ask, has anyone on the forum owed this in the past; just wanted to check that I am not buying a troubled Octy as I struggle to understand why someone would sell the vehicle having only covered 7.5K miles in 16 months.

Thank you in advance,

Welcome aboard KFC.

Sorry, not my motor but there are plenty of reasons why it might be legitimately up for grabs.

For example, a friend of mine works in the motor leasing trade, he changes his car every 6 months and he is able to get his wife a low cost lease vehicle as a perk, she does well under 10k a year and typically changes it annually.

Or take my stepmothers situation, she bought a brand new Fabia 6 months ago but is facing not being able to drive it after a serious back op scheduled for next year. When that one is inevitably sold out through the dealer she bought it from, it will be a little over a year old with about 5k on it!

I understand your concern but I'm sure it's simply a low mileage car, there's plenty out there plus you have the comfort of the remainder of the manufacturers warranty.

Enjoy your new car and be sure to post your thoughts... :)

I guess there could be lots of non-negative reasons to change a car after a short time.

Many people change annually anyway, a new job with company car, moving abroad, need for something different (small city car, >5 seat family car) etc etc etc

At 16 months you should have more than 1.5 years dealer warrenty remaining on the car in the UK right?

If you have any problems, just take it back immediately to the dealer (don't wait a month or until the next service).

One thread that might be worth reading first before you sign the paperwork is this regarding a "boom" from the rear of the car:
http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/294540-low-frequency-boom-in-cabin/

I've never had it on mine but some people have sold their car because it was so bad & a fix wasn't available at the time.

I think dealers now have several updates but I gather this doesn't fix the problem for all.

One of the reasons for low km vehicles is because when VAG executives come from overseas, they are given a company car for their duration of their visit.

For example, there is a Race Blue Octavia VRS 162TSI at my local dealership that has done less than 7,000km on the clock from 2014. It was driving by a VAG executive for his 4 month visit and then returned to the dealer.

What does the current V5 show as the owner? The seller should be happy to let you know. Could be ex-lease or hire, but that would not mean it's a dud. My last three cars have all been around a year old with mid-teen mileage, and all have proved excellent buys. It's the bottom range Fords etc that have usually been mainstream hire cars. Stuff like this Octy will usually have been company use, and in my long experience company cars are looked after properly by the keeper (to avoid a b@ll@cking from the fleet manager) -  and any issues get sorted pronto.

Thank you for all for your replies.

Gabbo - thanks for the heads-up on the 'Boom in cabin'

Flying Gecko - Thanks for the advice, I am hoping to get a scan of the V5 form the dealer and will try to get hold of the previous owner

I post some pics if/when I get it.

Hi and welcome

Sent from my Galaxy S5

I've had my Vrs for five weeks now and can honestly say I've had no issues, and certainly no Booming.

As a first heads up, the YP plate indicates it's registered in Sheffield. As well as contacting the reg'd owner, Google them if it's a company. Some lease/hire companies also provide fleet management and finance for the end user. If the V5 shows a private individual, there's nothing to be lost by contacting them either.
