DRL and Folding Door Mirrors

Featured Replies

Is it now the law to have DRL's activated, as on my 2015 Octavia111 there is a tick box in the

Car Menu to turn them off, which would seem to defeat the object if it's now the law?

Re-folding mirrors, on my car the mirrors fold out when activating the the opening key and fold in when locking the car.

However on my brothers car Octavia111 2014 his mirrors only fold out when actually starting the car.

Is this an option some where in a menu (I can't find it) to be able to engage this?

I sometimes find myself in a situation where loading or unloading my car I have too keep it locked whilst

carrying stuff into the house etc. My mirrors are flapping about during the locking and unlocking and will be worn out soon.

It is not a legal requirement to have DRL's activated. they just have to be fitted on new cars. It's upto you wether or not you use them

Mirror controller was changed during MY14 build run. I dont think the behaviour can be altered...possibly with VCDS but definitely not from the infotainment.

I believe the Golfs are also now getting the same mirror controller for MY16...perhaps its a cheaper component or there is some safety reason why the mirrors now have to unfold upon unlock?

Personally I like my wing mirrors fold/unfolding on lock/unlock generally, it means their in place when I want to use them.

Also for the life of me I can't understand anyone whom has spent the thick end of 20-30 grand on car, parking so close to something that the wing mirrors can't unfold !!!!

Ah you haven't parked in my local multistorey. The only way to get into many of the spaces is for the passenger to get out, fold mirrors and park with the passenger side close up to the pillar.

Never had a great appreciation for what we dubbed "Stall-bans" on the commuting trains then, I switched onto the ole 125 intercity's which stopped only at Luton, not a vast improvement either.

Personally, I think I'd drop the shoppers off and park somewhere more roomy, kinda depends how much you enjoy the shopping I guess.

DRLs are allowed to be turned off, they just have to be fitted :)

As for the mirrors, it was a change of door controller version on MY14.5 IIRC.

The only way of changing the behaviour is by changing the controller, it can't be changed with VCDS.
