Mk3 vrs possibility

Featured Replies

So as the title suggests has any one heard any news? I know everyone has said that there would be absolutely no chance of a new vrs, but after speaking to my local dealer looks like the soda big wigs maybe be asking the question.! Also with the appearance of pictures online of a vrs-esque model and the concept shot of the r5 looks like things maybe in the pipeline.

Would you buy one if it did finally happen

Skoda internal meeting A- Okay chaps, our Rally car is doing well, and we know the public want a fast Fabia B - but we told them we wouldn't do a new fabia vRS A - oh, yeah, ah well never mind

  • You said that before, and now the head of VW Martin Winterkorn is gone, the CEO of Skoda, Head Designers etc,  all gone, knew nothing. The New VW CEO admits they lied, Volkswagen that is, someone li

  • I like the Fabia mk3 but having driven the 1.2 tsi I didnt find it performed anywhere near as well as some people claim. I took a Polo gti out this week and it was a great drive but a boring car. Skod

Not if the just use the 1.8TSI 192 ps Engine with 320 Nm Torque when Manual and less when fitted to a DSG that is in the 2015 VW Polo GTI.

You might as well buy a VW Polo in 3 or 5 door.

A 3rd Generation Fabia Hot version should be special if Skoda are to be using the Fabia R5 as a promotional vehicle for the brand.

A Hot Hatch & even an Estate Version, maybe using the System from the S1 Audi to give it AWD,

Maybe an Economic Engine like the 1.4TSI / TFSI ACT / COD and Electric Motors for the Rear Wheel Drive.

As going to be common soon in the Audi A3 & other VWG Cars.

Tried & Tested and also New Technology that will work, properly tested and proven reliability,

not just the hand me down from the VW Parts bins when they are failing to sell well in a VW or Audi ,

or they want use the buying public as road testers for them.

They used the 1.4TSI in all forms of the SEAT/SKODA/AUDI/VW small hot hatches in past so don't see why they cant use the 1.8TSI again in a new VRS version.

Seems rather weak that the biggest engine you can buy in Fabia format is a 1.2TSI ....... MEH!!!!

Yeah the small engines and the lack of sporty looks is what's stopping me buying one I test drive a 1.2 and although nippy round town I missed the oomph that I'm used too

Someone mentioned on here that the newer 110PS engine isn't as good as the old 105PS engine either due to the new EURO 6 standards.

Some people might disagree but I would say the same having driven both engines now.

I like to see a MK3 fabia vRS I think the fabia needs one really as they do rally the fabia and it's not on that the sportiest one you can get is a 1.2 TSI 110 PS the MK1 was good because of the 1.9 TDI the MK2 was good because you got hatchback and estate and I liked the 1.4TSI twin charger and the DSG what I like to see for the new MK3 vRS Is 2.0 TDI 184PS with a manual or DSG and estate

They wouldn't put the 184PS TDI engine in the fabia because it would be faster than the Octavia, taking sales away from it.

Skoda internal meeting

A- Okay chaps, our Rally car is doing well, and we know the public want a fast Fabia

B - but we told them we wouldn't do a new fabia vRS

A - oh, yeah, ah well never mind

C - I know - the lettering on the newer badges was already ambiguous as to whether it's a 5 or an S. Let's do a hot Fabia, based on the rally car, and call it a vR5 ! we can even use the same badges, and it doesn't look like we're going back on our word.

D - and we'll make it truly fast, but actually affordable. With tech which actually works - and the car buying public will come to us in droves

VW head rep - *ahem*

C -  or maybe we should just stick to rally cars

D - yeah, who needs more than 100 bhp in a road going hatchback these days anyway.

Classic marketing.

'We're not going to make MK3 VRS'

'Oh no! But we want one'

'We are seeing a demand for a MK3 VRS in the UK Mr Skoda'

'OK lets make one and make a big deal out of it'

Honda did it with the Type R Civic, ok the Fabia will never be in the same league, but the principals are the same.

It's no myth that the MK2 was a flop when it came to sales compared to the MK1, but that was VAG's problem in choice of engine and drivetrain. it put a lot of people off.

VAG and Skoda probably saw this as people not wanting a nippy Fabia anymore, so we can only hope that they see sense.

Will the 1.8 even fit in the fabia ?

Will the 1.8 even fit in the fabia ?

Assuming they still use the same chassis like in previous Polo/Fabia/Ibiza models, they are all cross platform, so yes.

Will the 1.8 even fit in the fabia ?

If you can fit a 2.0 TSI in an A1 then yes, i'm pretty positive that a 1.8 TSI would fit.

Another idea is the mk3 still to new for a vrs model

My prediction is that a Vrs will appear. Or not.

Remember where you read it first!

I predict if there is a Warm / Hot one in the near future it would not be called a RS / vRS while the current CEO that said there would not be one is still in charge.

How odd the Fabia R5 Bodied rally car is currently competing in WRC 2 @ the Rally Portugal and the best Skoda can do for the public in the showrooms is a 3 Cylinder Diesel & a Petrol car with 110ps.

Producing the soon to arrive Monte Carlo Versions of the New Fabia with just the current engine options is really rather lame.

A decent choice of engines in a Fabia Outdoor Estate would be a good enough option for many,

but with the Crazy Pricing that Skoda are doing, that would cost as much as the New Skoda Superb will be.

So, the new Ibiza Cupra is also getting the 1.8tsi treatment, with potential for more power than the Polo if VW let them:

Skoda must have something awesome in the works then...surely?

The same 1.8 after everyone else has used it just before the MK3 fabia is replaced [emoji1]

So where are we now in 2015,  there are Monte Carlos with just the same choice of engines, no extra performance,

the Scoutline is coming out, just 'Offroad Looks' no extra Performance, ability offroad or on, and no AWD.

If a Briskoda member has driven a Prototype vRS does this mean the 'Never' might be 'Maybe',

or it was a show car as seen already at Motorshows?

The CEO Dr Winfried Vahland has gone, the one that said no Mk2 vRS Replacement, if you want a vRS buy an Octavia,

so he is replaced now by someone from Porsche.

Some Skoda insiders said, 'If people want to buy them we want to build them'.

Yep c'mon Skoda, pull your finger out and get a mk3 vRS released!

If it doesn't appear by the time our mk2 vRS is due for replacement (quite possibly next year) then we will likely leave the brand and VAG completely. I'm sure many others feel the same.

I recently bought my Skoda and asked about the possibility about a VRS and the chap said that the sales were so poor in the UK last time they did have a VRS fabia out (less than 1% I was told) - so the idea of doing one again for in their eyes "a minority" of people just wasn't going to sway it.

If anything was to appear I highly doubt it would be in UK.

Had to settle for the 110ps instead

Don't shoot the messenger, just what he said.

The chap was correct.

But the VW Polo sold half as many GTI (2010-2014) with the same engine so a even lower proportion since the Polo is the VW's Best seller.

And the Seat Ibiza Twincharger sold less over an extra year, (2009-2012 then a Face Lift 2013-2015)

Both now have facelifted versions with the 1.8TSI 192ps engine.

So the low percentage comment from the now gone CEO of Skoda (Dr Winfried Vahland)  was an odd one when saying why there

would be no vRS Replacement.

*If only 1% sold were vRS, then the very successful Monte Carlos that were spoken of had less than

3% of the Fabia Sales.* In truth they were even less than that.

http://topgear.com/car-news/hot-hatch/skoda-will-kill-fabia-vrs

*Note that it is quoted he said 'They Produced 20,000 Monte Carlo'.

? How many Monte Carlo were sold world wide?,  Not 20,000.*    Skoda Spin doctor, no Longer a VW Employee.

The strange thing is that this 'Quotes' from the CEO were published and vRS Sales picked up,

and VW, Seat and Audi sold virtually no Twninchargers through 2014,

they did the usual, they Registered cars at Dealerships to keep the Model showing as some selling.

The Cupra with the 1.8TSI appeals to me - the Polo is too 'blue rinse' as George would say and even if Skoda were to release a Fabia vRS III (which looks highly unlikely) I don't need five doors (er, even though my last and current car had / have five doors - I could count the number of times someone has sat in the back in the past six years on one hand).

Go for Cupra then, you'll probably have around 10 times more fun driving it compared to Fabia, plus you get Bixenon headlights (not even an option for Fabia which has not so good standard headlights as you can read here in various topics) and adjustable driving modes (normal and sport) as standard and Alcantara covered seats/armrest (not available for Fabia again) as an extra if you don't fancy standard cloth seats.

Manual only though and maybe some find that more fun,

but the 320Nm with the Manual 192 ps Polo GTI gives no better performance over the 192ps DSG car with 250Nm.

You really need to decide yourself if they are better or more fun than the Fabia, they might be said to handle better,

they are certainly no faster than the 1.4 TSI /TFSI 180/185 ps which many Standard CTHE have 190ps or so on 99 ron fuel,

and the Manual box  1.8TSI is no faster than the DSG 1.8TSI. (Brian69 even a CAVE engine like your own can have 185ps or more and you know the 0-62 etc from your runs at Santa Pod.)

The Seat Leon FR 1.8TSI 180ps Hatch or Estate handles and goes rather well, maybe even better than the 1.8TSI 192ps Ibiza Cupra will.

That doesn't make much sense.

But the discussion here is about new Fabia vs new Cupra.
