As an option or alternative and as Seat need to sell cars & get Demonstrators shifted the Leon  FR might be an option for Brian69,

the Multilink suspension giving a rather nice ride. & in the real world, the performance is quite good.

 

The New Cupra Ibiza will handle much like the Polo GTI manual.

I have only driven the DSG versions, and they are so so, there is no 10 times better or even twice as good 

as the model that went before.

The Polo is no lightweight and neither will the Ibiza be.

Sorry but what the h*** are you even talking about? We are comparing the Fabia MK3 which has a 110PS engine at best with the new Ibiza Cupra which has a 192PS engine and the Cupra will be probably around 10x more fun to drive.

I hope they make a mark 3 VRS with the 1.8t in. Skoda say they won't as the MK2 didn't sell well and for good reason is looked crap and had a bad engine the interior was shocking aswell. I should know I had one. The mk3 is miles better and will do very well in sales if they launched a VRs

I thought the Thread was about the possibility of a All New 2016 Fabia vRS or what ever name it would be given as a warm /hot hatch..

& nobody was thinking of a badged up 110ps engine car were they?

How much did you lose then buying a lemon of a vRS and then getting shot, and how long did you have it?

 

Looks not counting for much with the All New Fabia, not that much of a sales hit and not so sure they will get to the 40% 

of sales of Skoda models in the UK as they were just until a couple of years ago.

The sales are a bit of a flop currently, but maybe some changes in engines will help there, 

a better choice in the Estates.

Then there is the various issues coming up with build quality and cheap parts not reflected in the not cheap purchase prices.

Discounts coming shortly no doubt, which will hit residuals just as it is with Mk3 Octavias.

 

Luckily for many owners the Ugly Mk2 Fabia vRS were not expensive new or bought as demonstrators and funnily 

they can still achieve more than 50% of what some paid as a trade in even over 4 years old.

That is cheap motoring, and some have nearly new 2nd or 3rd replacement engines in.!!

Fair enough, although I'm curious as to why you bought a car you thought looked "crap" / "hideous"?

I like ugly cars, so I'm quite happy (as evidenced by four years of ownership). I can't agree on the interior, but then my previous car was a MKI vRS; the MKII interior is Bentley-esque by comparison.

Warm / hot superninis are bought by young people - Skoda is seen as a brand for older drivers - a MKIII vRS certainly wouldn't threaten Fiesta ST sales figures.

Edit: I see you can buy a 60PS MKIII - what do you do when you get to a hill? Ask your passengers to get out and push?

Had my Leon in for service the other day at my local Skoda/Seat dealer. Killing time in the showroom I was impressed with the Fabia as a potential future vehicle (looking to downsize eventually) but would not be happy with current engine choice. Sales guy I was chatting to said "Ah, you`ll be wanting the vRS then". Pointed out that Skoda have so far been quite emphatic that there won't be one to which the response was: "They said that last time, watch this space". Interesting!

A New Skoda CEO in place, and a new Brand Director for Skoda UK now that Alasdair Stewart has gone.

Maybe we can see what these Volkswagen Men can get the VWG to allow Skoda to Build and sell now.

 

They need to do something because what they have on offer now is not inspiring!

Even a 150PS Monte Carlo with DSG could raise my interest.

I didn't find the body shape of the Mk II to my taste, so it's unlikely I would ever have bought one. The fact that the vRS was petrol and automatic only just added to the lack of appeal to me. So I didn't buy one.

I rather like the Mk III body shape and the fact is that most people would be more than happy with a CR140 or CR150 diesel tuned for torque so it felt fast. The Mk I was never a fast car. But it felt fast.

It doesn't take a genius to see that what sold well before will probably sell well again. A relatively low powered diesel as a sensible warm hatch. A value for money warm hatch. One with low running costs. One with low insurance costs. A Skoda warm hatch.

Remember back when you were telling me that i was bad mouthing VW and how they might be after me for Libel or Defaming them,

you even mentioned Lower Saxony and how they could take legal actions against me, 

and now they have turned out as many knew to be liars and cheats, odd is it not.

Those that might still be in Court will be those from VW, not me.

 

So they have had defeat devices in 1.6TDI CR, and they have yet to get them in for the FIX, 

like with the 1.2 & 2.0 litre Euro 5 Diesel Engines.

VW need to meet the Emissions and EU testing, so not so sure their Warm Hatch will be a diesel, 

and if it is to be a petrol Skoda will be having the EU testing with the petrols without the Co2 Irregularities like with the 1.0TSI Polo Bluemotion or VW 1.4TSI ACT's.

If I was you, I'd be VERY careful what you post. Calling entire corporations liars and cheats might make you feel big and clever, but it's not, you're not and just being the same thread as you makes me queasy.

He's not calling anyone anything that's not true, unless you've been living in the clouds this last year or so then you'll know the VW group have been cheating on emission outputs and are being faced with court action.

He hasn't said anything libellous or slanderous so how does it make you queasy.

The MKI was launched thirteen years ago - things have changed a lot since then - while not particularly powerful the PD 130 had character (the power delivery coming in one big lump) - the delivery in CRs is more linear and then you have DPF and emissions issues - the day of the diesel has passed.

The MKI vRS was great value for money - a warmish MKIIII wouldn't be cheap - the list price of a MKIII Monte 1.4TDI 105PS is almost £18k, so a warm version would be north of that.

I see from this weeks Autocar that Skoda are investigating the business case for a vRS. Given that the Polo GTI and imminent Ibiza Cupra (predicted to be around £18,400) already use the 1.8 tsi, that would seem to be the likely option.

Sort of good news - however, if it ever does come to anything Skoda are going to be very late to the party.

saw a new polo GTI for the first time last week.... I was so bored I nearly fell asleep as i walked past..... I had to check it wasn't a 1.2 with a GTI badge though....

They are a proper Q car.

Just one issue, and that is the VW Figures, the 320Nm Manual and the 250Nm DSG 1.8TSI 192ps Minimum 

that supposedly has a lighter engine than the 1.4TSI DSG Twincharger 180ps Minimum,

but is heavier, and in the real world no quicker.

 

So a reliable Hot Hatch hopefully, and not as expensive as the car it replaces,

but not actually as VW give official figures for it.

 

Real proof of the pudding is try them and see.

Odd that the Manual is not faster than the DSG, and actually not faster than the car they produced 5 years before it.

I bet the DSG is as fast (if not faster) in reality.  They will just be saying the manual is faster to attract people who like to do "proper" gear changes with a manual box.

Skoda have got the design of the Mk3 Fabia right but need to put the Polo gti engine in it. An estate version would be perfect.

It is being touted that the New Skoda Kodiak will get a 1.4TSI engine and electric motors for the rear wheel drive.

That would be a wonderful set up for a Fabia AWD Estate.

Try Ibiza Cupra then, it's more interesting. New Cupra is hard to find though for a test drive. In my country for example there never will be one available for a test drive according to Seat sales rep as they expect to sell only around 5 of them annually.

They cant really make it any faster.... It''ll be knocking on the door of the Golf GTI then and could steal sales for people who don't need a bigger car but are just after power.
