Traffic sign recognition not working from 110 kmph

Featured Replies

Noticed today that traffic sign recognition didn't recognize speed limit signs over 100 kmph today. A bug, or?

Seeing as it isn't available in the UK as an option (but can be enabled by VCDS) you probably won't get much input from the UK users (plus we don't have 110kph signs).

What country was this in and did it not show speed limit data embedded in the maps?

A Norwegian skodite asked the same on Skoda Norways Facebook Page. They mumbled something about the maps not beeing up to date and the mapdata overrides the input from the camera.

It is the other way round - the camera overrides the map data ..........

Not according to Skoda Norway. One should think that the camera overrides the maps, but who knows? I know one place where speedlimits are recently changed, so I'll try to test what gets priority.

But it is a fact that on Norwegian roads who recently has had the speedlimits increased to 110kmh, the car displays the old speedlimits.

It most definitely does override the map data. As usual Skoda are wrong :)

Lots of roads in the UK have had the speed limits lowered from 30mph to 20mph (including the one I live on). The map data still has them at 30mph, but the camera picks up the 20mph sign and displays that.

It is the same on the UK Motorway network when there are roadworks - the temporary 50mph signs are picked up by the camera and displayed, overriding the 70mph map data.

It is probably more to do with the system isn't aware of a 110kph sign so can't display it - is this limit a relatively new invention? What limit was the road before it got changed to 110kph?

Is it possible that the system logic is set to choose the lower of whatever the camera or map might say?

I can imagine VW Group lawyers wanting it set up this way...

No surprise that they are wrong :)

In Norway 110kph is quite new, but Sweden and Finland has had it since the dawn of timE. So it should be in the system.

It displays the 100kph speedlimits, wich now is upgraded to 110kph on some roads.

But, when driving through Vestfold/Buskerud towards Oslo it only shows 90, on some stretches, even though limit is 110.

When did those roads get upgraded to 110?

And was the old limit 90 or 100?

So it sounds like the lower of the 2 takes precedence.

You never know, the 2015/16 maps may have the updated speed limit in them and they are due out any day now. VW have already released them, so Skoda should release them in a week or so.

Nope, there are no 110 kph limits here in Finland.

Then I have been speeding in Northern Finland for years :p is it 100 that is max then?

120 on motor ways. Common limits are 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100 and 120. There are no 90 or 110 limits.

Does traffic sign recognition not come as standard in the UK?

I thought it did but I can't see an option for it in my menus.

My nav displays speed limit signs which I assume are embedded into the maps. But the camera doesn't seem to read them.

It isn't available in the UK for no reason other than Skoda haven't made it available.

Easy enough to enable as long as you have a Columbus and a certain revision of the necessary hardware.

I live in Norway and have enabled the "traffic sign recognition". I have the same problem, system does not display 110km/h signs, but all the other speed signs works ok. I was driving in Sweden, and there the system detected the 110km signs without any problem. I think the system uses a database of availible signs for each country, so it does not pick up other signs like Exit numbers like Exit 37. We would not like the speed to be displayed as "37km/h". I guess when the June Update of the maps arrive we will get an update of the sign database, and the system hopefully will read the 110km/h signs in Norway

... it might need a new software upload to the camera to correct this - I would suggest people log it with their dealer who can then submit it to Skoda technical as a bug

... and the ECE 2015/6 maps are out if you know where to look (hint VW not Skoda)
