Featured Replies

Not wishing to hijack another thread that mentions this service, has anyone used it?

How do I show them my MOT and insurance details ?

I found it very easy to use....just input the certificate numbers.

Recommend it.

Cheers.

I shall try it this evening.

How do I show them my MOT and insurance details ?

Here is a good place to start ;)

Chris

Used it myself last month , and it is very simple , if you have a new car . Under 3 years old no need for MOT details and they pick up the Insurance electronicly , big Brother is watching , as the insurance co are all linked to the data base , so it is driven by the car registration details . MOT are being linked electronicly at present , and all the garages will be inputting data on the vehicle registration to the DVLA database , BIG BRother , . However if one is all legal then it works perfect .

aLL THEY NEED TO DO NOW IS INVEST AS MUCH TIME AND EFFORT TO CATCHING ALL THOSE p.... ON THE ROAD THAT ARE THE CAUSE OF TOO MANY UNINSURED UNTAXED ACCIDENTS . .

I used it last week. Very simple and new tax disc turned up 2 days later

We'll be printing copies on our Inkjets next, to save on postage.

Or is this option only available on insurance exempt cars? If you know what I mean. :finger:

I used it in the summer and found it very efficient. It only accepts debit cards rather than credit cards which, for some, can be a security issue.

I haven't a clue what you mean

As i said in the other thread i used this service, found it very easy and sooo much better than waiting inline down the post office.

Need a computerised MOT iirc to do it though.

Stupid question then - If insurance is the electronic side of things, what if you have a private plate? Will that be part of your V5 so even if the insurance still has you down as a Y plate, everything will work out? I never thought the lettering on the front of my car would be a matter for them, so not mentioned it assuming that underneath the Y plate was still part of it.

It usually only asks for the "code" you get when you get the reminder thru.. (or you can use the code off the v5) and a code off the mot certificate if needed.

i think its great.. about time goverment depts started working together..

It's good - but be careful.

You need to apply on/after 15th of the month or you will loose 1 month's tax.

E.g. If your tax is due on 31st October 2005 and you apply on 14th your tax (for 12 months) will expire on 31st September 2006. If you apply on 16th your tax will expire on 31st October 2006.

Same goes for 6 months.

Also you need to allow 5 working days for delivery.

DVLA are looking into direct debit (monthly was hinted). Even if they do DDWA I would be interested in that.

Thats just the same as it you went in the Post Office to do it though.

If I'm reading that right, you haven't told you insurance co that you have a private plate?

If that's the case, I think you should. My undertsanding that you won't be insured at the moment. Your insurance certificate shows only the reg plate, not the VIN (plus they may have reallocated your plate to another vehicle). If you were stopped and the police asked for your insurance, you couldn't produce a valid certifcate. You could be in a whole load of poo there.

Plus the fact the the thieving barstewds that offer th insurance are always looking for a reason not to pay if (perish the thought) you should have a small accident and end up on your roof!! :D

Very easy, came in two day's, recommend :)

5 days :o Looks like I should get it done today then LOL!

Yup but you'd have thought in this day and age you could have got it earlier.

For example what say if you were out of the country for 4 weeks and the renewal came during this period.

Also the DVLA don't discourage you to renew early (no warnings on web site).

Took 5 mins, then disk arrived in to days.
