Engine types in the fabia 1.9 diesel

Featured Replies

Been volunteered by my partner to do clutch in her fabia it's a 1.9 tdi 100bhp how do I find out engine type also where is best place to get clutch hydrolics and a new duel mass flywheel as it's done 170000 miles so recon flywheel will be ready for changing its a y reg as well

PD100 should be SMF not DMF. The SMF shouldn't need doing if its been running fine until now.

Get the engine code from the handbook, sticker in the wheel well or the V5 (of if you think it has ever been changed, double check on the engine its self). Most motorfactors will be able to supply the clutch kit with bearing, and I suspect most will recommend TPS or a dealer (ie. genuine) for the cylinder if you wanted to replace that. Could try vwspares.co.uk as well.

Oh and if it has had a DMF fitted at some point and it needs replacing, put an SMF back in

I was led to belive this engine was duel mass when I get home will look on v5 is it in the engine number or will there be a engine type. I kno slave is mounted to the top of gear box

I'm I right to assume. If slave is fitted external on gearbox it's solid mass and if slave internal it's dual mass xxxx

Ok I think I'm wrong on the PD100 coming with an SMF, lots of discussion 5 years or so back about SMF conversion kits for them (guess it was before everyone went vRS mad or they became cheaper...).

I think the fabia some had solid some had duel mass looking at everything only the duel mass was fitted with a internal slave so happy as that's lowered my repair bill

My PD100 SEAT had an external slave and an SMF. I also have a PD130 SEAT which has an internal cylinder, 6spd box and these definitely had a DMF when new.

Logic doesn't apply to Petrols though, 1.8T 5spd box was mated to a DMF originally and had an external cylinder.

They can be fun I have a octavia 130bhp 6 speed and that's duel mass

Chances are it will be a SMF. The internal slave is more for the 6 speed gearbox rather than what flywheel it has fitted.

Had a look at the log book it's a atd

Again, ATD will probably be SMF, same as my ATD.

Two ATDs I've had in the family are SMF.

My 2001 ATD Fabia is defo a SMF Ive seen it when box was off

I got a asz engine forsale

Had a look at the log book it's a atd

Had a secondhand gbox fitted to my pd100 atd recently. Mine has smf. Mines on 2004 1.9tdi

That's a new one on me, it might be a bit grabby at first because your left foot needs to get used to the difference.

Yes 500 miles they say never mind don't give it full open taps till after miles

Feel strange when it done now mountings and new clutch kit last another 7 years then lol
