VAS vs. VCDS - both still needed to code LED rear light clusters.

Featured Replies

I have OEM LED rear light clusters fitted to my model year 2011 Superb.

As Skoda never fitted these clusters until MY2012 they don't quite work as they should on my car. The lower line of LED's are brighter than they should be.

I'm told it can be rectified on earlier cars such as mine but not purely with VCDS.

Apparently I need VAS too which is the dealers software.

The process is:

1. Access Central Electrics using VCDS.

2. In long coding section go to byte 18: set it as 1C and save, disconnect, remove the key. Then turn on the ignition.

(This is where the dealers VAS system is required).

3. In VAS introduce the car manually as a Skoda Superb 2012.

4. Now in VAS Central Electrics you'll see that LED Rear Clusters as an option, enable them, apply it, disconnect, remove the key and then turn on the ignition.

5. Now return to VCDS back to central electrics.

6. In the long coding section go to byte 18, set it as "00" (masking), save, disconnect, remove the key, then turn on the ignition.

I am led to believe this process will clear the error coding and correctly code the LED clusters.

Now I can't see any UK dealer willing to do this for me! Is there no way to do this using only VCDS I wonder?

It would appear there are still options in VAS that VCDS doesn't cover?

All you are doing in VAS is modifying the long coding/adaptions, it should be possible in VCDS as well.

Perhaps someone who has had this done could post a VCDS scan of the controller at each point, including full adaption map. Once they have done that, then Rosstech could add the required coding to the label file for a newer release.

The guy who mastered it is based in Hungary.

I'll ask him!

If its anything like a Leon then vas actually patches the software, it doesn't just alter the long coding.

I think it can be done with VCP - there are various files to upload to the BCM for LED light clusters on PQ35 and PQ46 cars

I have never tried it though and wouldn't try it on someone else's car without a disclaimer :)

You will be lucky to find any dealers still using VAS, we switched to ODIS about 12 months ago.

I have seen some VAS-PC on eBay but don't know how reliable it is but I thought it would be possible with vcds

ah, very much like vcds with a programming function.

Our dealer tool no longer has vas pc but I use a separate laptop with the original diag

starter split software start up. works just as it was intended.

Feel like a challenge!?

Am I right in thinking you have VAS and VCDS? You might be my savior!

I have both if you're ever down Sheffield area

yes I have both. whilst I very much enjoy visiting York I'm not free to make the trip but if you wish to visit me it shouldn't take long.

Wow, cheers guys  :sun:

I do tend to get about a bit with work so if it ever looks like I'm going to be heading to either Sheffield or Manchester I'll drop you a PM - beer tokens in hand!

Thank you!

I'm hearing lots of good things about VAG CAN Pro, it's got me wondering if this will allow me to code my 2011 car to think it's a 2012...

it should be possible with VCP

i've done twin fogs on my octavia fl and also disabled bulb monitoring on front DRL that were changed to LEDs on an elegance

both were masked in byte 18 but with vcp you can change the correct part

Just based on my experiences with VCP (I don't have it) I suspect the following might help.

In VCP:

- Guided functions

- Other module

- Programming PQ35

- Read config

- Save to file

Grab a copy of vaghelper, I'd suggest 0.0.1.17 as 0.0.1.18 seems broken.

- Load file

- Choose a BCM output you'd like to modify, change the brightness, turn off hot/cold diagnostics etc

- Save it

Back to VCP:

- At the programming PQ35 screen

- Load file that you previously saved

- Write config

Obviously this is all at your own risk and I'm pretty sure at least some of it can be done via VCP directly.

Thanks Langers, a lot of what you mention is foreign to me, I really need to find someone well versed in VCP and to get myself round with some beer tokens!

I'm hoping as more and more of you are getting to grips with VCP that we might be able to sort out my issue with the rear LED's on my Superb.

Hopefully one day we will be able to enable the LED rear cluster option (by introducing the car as a 2012 model).

Keep playing guys!

If you're ever down this way I now have ODIS-E (the successor to VAS) and a 5054a dongle that I've used for flashing modules in my car. It's also compatible with XP and VAS so I can install that at some point too as that's what your instructions reference.

If you know of anyone that has factory fit rear LED's then it's probably easiest to grab the config from that to apply to your car.

Where did you buy the ODIS-E & 5054a dongle from?

I am interested as it would supplement my VCDS.
