Woop woop thats the sound of the police.....

Featured Replies

I came off doing about 35. Corner with a bad camber and small gravel left behind by something. Back wheel spun and slid down the camber and slapped me to the road. Slid for about 25 feet under the bike until I hit the kerb.

I had the full gear on. Pretty much didn't have a scratch. So buy decent kit and wear it.

Cracked a rib picking the bike up though :notme:

Not saying Matts brother did any of this.. But as a seperate note, They're only people at the end of the day.

People don't like being spoken to like dirt or shouted at.

I certainly do nobody any favours if I get spoken to badly. I do the bare minimum.

That goes both ways though. Most traffic police are just ticket monkeys who have decided what they're going to do and how much money they want to take off you before they've got out of the car, so there's no point having a discussion with them or trying to help them.

One of the things to keep in mind is with many offences the officer has the discretion to issue a Caution instead of a ticket or report.  They can only do that though if you accept that you have done the dastardly deed.  If you argue the toss then you would have to let a Court decide.  Quite often minor offences will be dealt with by discretion as it is a form of education rather than the heavy hand and it is less paper work (or was in my day).

Arguing when stopped will not do anyone any favours BUT that doesn't mean roll over.  If you have not done what you are being stopped for the best thing is to explain in a civil manner and if all else fails have your day in Court where you can rely on the system of the Crown have to prove beyond all reasonable doubt.

We were both polite and had a bit of banter, no doubt if my brother was on his own he would have ended up kicking off but I kept him in check, they were set on ticketing him, I dont think we could have talked our way out of it sadly, but do the crime do the time etc etc.

Yeah, I dont tend to go anywhere without my kit on, I go down the road in all my kit feeling venerable enough, he comes past with jeans and trainers on, I dont know how he does it. Well I do, lack of brains.

He was pretty gutted when we were chatting after, he said he wouldnt have minded so much if it was a full on 1st/2nd/3rd gear wheelie but it was just a little one :D He is very good at them but right place right time is needed. He got a Section 59 (Is that what's known as an ASBO?) on his scooter for wheelie-ing when he was 16. :D
