Tyres and suspension.

Featured Replies

I currently own an Octavia 4x4 SE on a 63 plate with 205/55/16 tyres.  I notice that the new Elegance 4x4 will have 225/45/17 tyres.  On asking a well known motoring correspondant how this would affect the handling I received the following reply.

The 225/45 R17s will sharpen the handling a bit but will be harsher and will feed more road shocks through, though probably not enough to get alarmed about. The 225/40 R18s would be a lot harsher and transmit a lot more bump/thump. All A3s, high spec Golfs and high spec Leons have independent rear suspension that makes the ride a lot better. I'm not sure at what trim stage Skoda Octavias get the independent rear suspension.

Can anybody  confirm  whether the Skoda Octavia Estates have independent rear suspension as in the higher spec Golfs, A3 and Seat Leon.

Thanks

The 4x4 does as does the vRS.

IRS on all 4X4's, vRS's and L and K's the rest get rear torsion beam otherwise known as BOOOOOOOM bar

BTW. Elegance is no more, its been renamed "SE L" WTF!!!!

Also, I can't find an Octavia Elegance 4X4 on the new price list http://www.skoda.co....ia-hatch/prices

I am surprised that the Elegance name has changed.  I am looking at the March Brochure 2015 obtained last week from a Skoda dealership and it is Elegance in that.

Nope you are correct, only herses get 4 X 4 and no petrol or DSG so, its a no no for me.

Still slightly off topic - but when have people ever taken much notice of that - I see in the MAY 2015 brochure, just downloaded, that the engine specs have change too. For the 1.4 TSi DSG, it's now EU6 compliant, up from EU5, max speed up from 134 to 136, 0-62 down from 8.5 to 8.2, and engine output up from 140 PS to 150 PS. The torque's still 250 Nm. There are some other small variations across the other engines.

Heading back towards the topic - official fuel consumption in the May 2015 brochure is now broken down according to wheel size as well as engine.

Is that the ACT engine or did we get robbed of that bit ?

Dunno.

150PS should be the ACT version, TBO in the long term the 140PS loosens up

& in VW all GT & higher spec get multilink as standard, so my 1.4lt 140PS GT MK7 estate has the multilink.......& 225/45 R17 alloys & tyres & the ride is very good, potholes and bumps etc dealt with all ok
