Scrapping Advise

Featured Replies

I have a old seat ibiza ( x reg) failed to sell 3 times for £500 on ebay.. its started blowing white smoke. I need to get rid... Ive never scrapped a car, what's the best way to get a good price ?

Take it to a legitimate scrap yard. They'll give you what the weight of the car is worth, I think it's a bit pants out there on the scrap side ATM, BUT they will give you a certificate of destruction to prove it's been squashed.

Or phone up the rag and bone man out of the paper, get another £50 for it and have the plod knocking on your door at 2 a.m to nick you for driving through the window of the local HSBC

Ive been checking the online instant quote sites, ranging from £70 -£122, I cant drive it for weigh in no tax, and plumes of white smoke

In my local area there are "cars for under £XXX" pages on facebook, i just posted on there asking for quotes when scrapping my old 1.3 Ford Fiesta.

Scrapped it about July/August time and got £140 for it.

He came over looked to see if it had its Cat, it didnt start/run so he was happy, paid me then i left the car key in the ignition with the window open. We filled out the V5 scrap bit, then we sent it off. I went to work the next day and came home and it was gone.

Oh yeah, t'internet, forgot about that  :D

What I meant to say was the local fella who drives around with in his Transit 'collecting' metal  :bandit:

I suppose that as long as there is something to prove that he is from XXX company then you're covering yourself, but that is the main thing - make sure you do cover yourself.

Whichever way you do it, insist on the Certificate of Destruction, if they're legit then there is no reason you shouldn't be given one.

Scrap wise, just before I left Prestons we offloaded a few scrappers, £100 a pop rings a bell, but it's like the stock market out there. The fella we used said he'd stock pile them until the price went up OR he had no space to pile any more  :D  It wasn't so long ago that we was getting £160 +
