Front Assist not on any 14 Plate cars?

Featured Replies

Hi folks this is my first post.

I've done some searching but cannot find a direct answer to this.

I'm about to buy a Elegance 1.6TDI March 14 plate car, which was a Skoda ex-management car. The car has now arrived at the dealers only to find that it doesn't have the the standard Elegance spec, its missing any Front Assist radar in the grill.

I've queried this to the dealer, he tried telling me that it's never been standard on the Elegance. So I got him to check the March 2015 brochure where this is stated.

I've noted from posts on here that it started as a standard Elegance option around June 2013.

I now know that there were issues with the device around its build time so it got removed, is there anymore details on this?

Will I miss the device if I buy this car? - The car isn't cheap

Do I get them to source me another car with in on, Skoda UK used cars doesn't seem to have any Elegance 1.6's with it at all 14 or 64 plate cars at the moment.

The dealer has then further gone on to tell me that they've got a 15 plate Elegance which is brand new, this is without it as well.

What worries me, what else might not be included on this car which I don't know about: Electric folding mirrors, dimming mirror or something else.

What on earth is going on.

Cheers.

It's a 14 plate but was it manufactured a while before it was registered? If they won't tell you this, You can tell the year of manufacture from the VIN I think?

Welcome to the forum.

Skoda Ex Management,  or just Registered to Skoda UK, Demonstrator, Courtesy Car, Lease Vehicle.

Maybe look for a Used Car that someone Specced up and then Traded back in,  Ex Management cars are nothing special as you are finding out.

1 former Registered Keeper & it could have been many drivers in its first few thousand miles.

Just become the proud owner of a September 2014 1.6 CR TDI Elegance Octavia - no front assist. In fact none of the '64 plate Elegance trim cars I saw in the forecourt had it. It's a safety device you'd only notice if you're about to rear-end someone - I wouldn't think you're missing much unless you're in the habit of tailgating.

I ordered my Octavia Elegance 1.6TDi around March/April 2014 which arrived in June 2014. Upon ordering I seem to remember front assist was an optional extra - which I didn't bother with.

So your car would not have it as standard. It will have the standard spec from the time it was built.

Now I believe it is and became standard shortly after I collected mine last year. They wouldn't have started filtering through until August/September 2014 at the earliest. There are quite a few other items that are standard now that are not on my car. C'est la vie!

I doubt you will miss something you have never had.

And just to add. Skoda UK do make things temporarily unavailable if there are known problems, such as supply issues. When I ordered mine the chrome window trim was not available, it is now. A lot of 14/64 cars have this missing for that reason. That's why I went and black packed mine (before the option existed).

Copy cats!

I've just bought a 14 plate Elegance 1.6 TDI. First registered on the 1st of April 2014, Not sure when it was actually built though.  It does NOT have front assist.  It DOES have folding mirrors and and the dimming rear view mirror.  EDIT:- I have been able to confirm that my car was manufactured in 2014 in the Czech Republic.

Also, Just be careful, very careful.  The car I bought was though a main dealer, when I asked about the cars history, the salesman told me the car was "Skoda -Ex Management" or worse case scenario, a lease car.  I told him that if it was an ex rental car that I wasn't interested, and he said it wasn't.  I've had the car 4 weeks now and the log book turned up last Friday.  And guess what, the name of the former (1st) keeper:-  Sixt Car Rentals.   As you can imagine, I was less than impressed!!!

@ Airscool, Ah, so that's why some cars have the chrome window trim and some don't.  Mine does not, but I have to admit I like the chrome trim.  Anybody know if that can be retro fitted, and roughly how much it would cost?

Also, what is "Black Packed"?

Thanks

No front assist on a 14 plate elegance, only front light assist.

There was no front assist on the first 13 plate cars. It was introduced as standard from about June 2013, but dropped again due to parts shortages a few months later, and wasn't even available as an option. It then reappeared as standard on late 64 plate cars.

I have a 64 plate elegance and that does not have front assist.

Think I'd be on my way back to the dealer, sounds like the car has been mis-sold. I'd kick up a fuss. Money back, free servicing or even a replacement

Get the car you want with the gadgets you want..

Don't settle for second best, you say (in my words) paying top dollar anyway !!

I think that Front Assist is on my car as standard but it is a 63 plate, it certainly wasn't an optional extra as I wasn't able to get any of these because of the complete absence of any diesel Elegance spec estate cars in the UK at that time!

Saying that I don't think that it is all that useful as it can be a touch trigger happy and bring up alarming red warning lights for no good reason and on one occasion that happened and I think it took control of the brakes too as I tried to brake when the car in front thought it would turn left at the very last minute. Certainly the brakes were not under my control and there wasn't any real danger of a collision ever happening. I asked my dealers about this behaviour and got a lot of nonsense about Adaptive Cruise Control, which I simply do not have on my car and even if I did have it, I wouldn't be using it at 30mph in town driving!

I had a 2013 Elegance (built in week 37or thereabouts). This was equipped with Front Assist as standard.

As others have said, FA has been added and removed from the Elegance spec a couple of times.

MY13 cars didn't have it.

It then got added for MY13.5 in May 2013, and was removed in November 2013 for MY14

It was then added back to the spec in November 2014 for MY15 IIRC

Just to confirm, my March 2014 Elegance does not have Front Assist.

It does have electric folding mirrors and a dimming centre rear-view mirror.

Thanks AG, I have been back to the dealers, a few times now,  I've also had issues with scratches that appeared on the drivers side doors after heavy, heavy rain a week after I picked up the car.  They have at least offered to have the doors repainted and blended in to match, so when I get it back the paint finish on the car should be more or less show room condition, or at least it had better be!!

I think it is some quite serious work to retro fit the chrome, which is why the option was removed as some dealers had to compensate customers who had ordered it during the time they had supply issues.

The 'black pack' was an option on the VRS at the time I ordered my Elegance, which meant black mirror caps and black grill. Subsequently a 'black pack' was offered on the Elegance (and maybe other models), although bizzarelly it didn't include a black grill but it did include black Turini alloys. AFAIK anyway. Someone may correct me!

Front assist with regular cruise control was standard fitment from launch through to early MY14. As others have said it was removed from Elegance spec during the early MY14 build run as there was a parts shortage.

I ordered my car just after it was removed from the standard spec, I was more annoyed about losing the spec than actually losing the front assist as not actually that bothered about having it.

The front assist was reintroduced late MY15 builds and now comes with ACC for MY16 builds (now labelled SE-L).

Worth noting.....the radars can become misaligned if bumped.....seems that on the most part only Audi dealers have the equipment to put them right....also once out of warranty if the radar gets damaged its several hundred £ for the part alone. It does false alarm on occasions too and has **** up a couple of forum members on occasion unnecessarily (a plastic bag being one of the offenders).

Elegance cars all have folding mirrors with puddle lights...the auto dimming function is a cost option. They still have an auto dimming rear mirror of course.

Front assist with regular cruise control was standard fitment from launch through to early MY14.

It wasn't.

The very early cars (MY13) didn't have it - I know, I had one of them in Elegance Spec :)

My Elegance has front assist 63 plate & it does work, but had it not been part of the spec I wouldn't pay to get it. OK it shows you when you get a bit close to the vehicle in front & it has only gone into RED mode(white van man leaving it late to turn left) a couple of times but my eyes & a foot on the "slow down pedal" have kept me from crashing into the vehicle in front for many years.

Think I'd be on my way back to the dealer, sounds like the car has been mis-sold. I'd kick up a fuss. Money back, free servicing or even a replacement

+1 for back to dealer. A few years back I was about to buy a car described as "one careful lady owner". On a closer look I saw some holes in the front & rear bumpers which turned out to be where the driving school plates had been attached. The lady who owned the driving school was possibly a careful owner, but what about the hundreds of learners!!

Like Kalpat, my November 63 plate Elegance has front assist and standard cruise control (not ACC)

It wasn't.

Ok perhaps launch spec vehicles didnt have it but it was introduced early on in MY13

It was only available from June 2013 - this was shown in the original version of the brochure, and has been mentioned once or twice in this thread.
