Black Car

Featured Replies

I love my car colour, but my word, it shows up marks so much more than other colour cars!

Thoughts?

Get a white one!

Or a Silver one.

My last car was black. It was my first and last black car. It showed up every mark, seemed to scratch itself and was nigh on impossible to wash without scratching it. I use noodle washmitts, two buckets etc - all of the stuff that's meant to lessen the chances of scratching the paint.

The thing that always  got to me was that there were loads of scratches around the drivers door handle. I never wear my wedding ring so it wasn't that

My previous 4 cars were either grey or silver and easy to clean. My current white one is even easier to keep clean.

But Black is nice to look at. Better than silver or white in my opinion.

Just a pain that it shows every single mark.

I love a polished black car.

But I'll never buy another one.

I have lots of Fancy Polishes and Treatments for my Black car, but Simoniz Black Colour Polish works as well as any for under £8 a Bottle.

& Simoniz Back to Black on the Plastic.

(it is a Gel in a clearish colour not Black & works very well.)

Got a black car and its not too bad, but its old style paint which helps. On the other hand, I have a sahara beige octavia and you can only tell its dirty when you can't see out of the windows! Its the perfect dirt colour :D

I feel your pain.  Owning two black cars is most definitely a ridiculous thing to do but it's a cross I'm willing to bear.  When clean they look fantastic and to be honest I like the excuse to go out and clean them again.  It gives me an hour or so on the drive away from the madness of having three small children.  If either car was silver I wouldn't have such an excuse! :D

My father in law had a Black Magic mk 4 Golf and said it was the worst he'd ever had for looking dirty and never to do it.

So i bought a black magic Fabia.

Then a black magic Seat.

And now a black magic A3.

you want silver to hide the dirt.

My silver mk2 Ibiza did 5000 miles between washes and didn't ever look dirty.

Dont get me wrong black loks fantastic, but every ding chip mud splatter scratch just glares at me when i get mine cleaned up.. and makes me wonder why i ever bother washing it anyway!

All my dullard colleagues pick black cars, imagine a 4 year old Audi, BMW or VW after 90k plus miles in black. They look truly shocking.

I agree...a PITA

However...Well polished and with good protection in place and it will almost self clean at this time of year

Best colour when clean

When you say protection, what do you mean? I usually use sonax bsd and colllinite wax. It still looks clean, but just close up you see all the scratch marks. For example the rear bumper underneath, I have just noticed more. I do try scratch-x but that is only temporary.

It's a pain. And it's 8 years old now. My ocd is taking over.

I did mine yesterday with AG wash AG ultra deep shine (for dark colours) then AG HD wax and the results are pretty good as per the pics :)

took a while but was up early anyway :)

I'm not so sure this will polish out. Here's my wife's black Honda Civic after a car pulled out of a junction in front of her yesterday. :-(

Ouch! Push the arch liner back in and no one will know

I never thought of that! ;-)

Black and white are the worst colours for showing dirt IMO.

But black looks brilliant if you get it to tip top condition.

Protection: Sealant and/or wax applied to freshly polished paintwork
