Question of washer pumps

Featured Replies

Rear screen washer not working but noticed that water is dumped on the floor under the front of car when I try to wash rear screen. I assume that pipe has come off pump but where is it ? Haynes makes no mention of pump location. I am assuming that they are near the washer bottle somewhere. Under battery perhaps ? Cheers !

Best thing is jack up n/s .take wheel off.

You will find the pump behind the inner liner closest to front bumper. Couple of torx head bolts to take out in liner.

Dont worry about doing damage to liner its flexible.

The hose has either come off there or at bulkhead.

My advise is once youve found and sorted problem. Top up washer with strong screen wash 65% and 35% water. I found even in harsh winter the hose never pops off

Common place is at the bulkhead like mentioned above. If you get someone to press washers and look down past the airbox you should see water squirting.

Don't know weather it's a clever design it pops off there or just pot luck but at least it stops the car getting soaked

From comments all over the place it's a clever design to stop pump getting damaged if water freezes in pipeline due to low concentration of screen wash. I think there was a warning somewhere that mix must be at least 50% or pipes pop off and Skoda threatened to charge  to put one back on in warranty if concentration low. I know they do pop off with pure water. Mine did weeks after I bought mine- some cheapskate had done a 120 point check and put neat water in to test washers. I believe there was a fix if the pipes came off regularly. It consisted of a clip on the pipe joins.

The joints in the washer pipe are there for no other reason than to facilitate easier assembly at the factory. Get some Halfords 5mm vacuum hose and a couple of cable ties and cut the silly standard connectors off and sleeve the pipe with the vacuum hose and fit the ties for added security. Use the correct screenwash concentrate and you'll have no further bother.
