headlights and radio going on and off

Featured Replies

Hi folks. I thought this was worth sharing. The pick up had an electric problem. Headlights were flashing while driving. And a relay was clicking like mad. I took out all fuses and relays and took fuse box to bits and found nothing wrong. Tried to start car and starter would not engage. So I had a look at starter motor connection and found a wire corroded . repaired with new crimp on female connector and tried starting the car.and everything works as normal. Going to give her a drive and see if its all OK. I am thinking that this wire prevents the radio and lights from working while starting the car? Maybe this is R7 signal wire. Hopefully this helps others

Yes, I seem to remember that connection acts as a ground wire for something, I can't rememebr what circuit it relates to now off the top of my head.

Yes it's the X-relay connection. It shuts down everything except hazards and positions light.

Well its been fine for today. Pleased that it was za cheap fix, just a crimp on connector

That is exactly why a week ago I recommended to Jonny85 in this post to check also the starter solenoid connector for corrosion that might act as a parasitic bridge to ground. He was lucky enough to find corrosion in there instead of having to dismantle the relay box in case water leaked in (an equal probability for R7 going mad).

The moral is this: Skoda Felicia is a very reliable car, but you need to carry out basic maintenance inspections. One of maintenance routines is to unplug every connector in the engine bay, clean them with a plastic pick or toothbrush (preferably wife's), spray them with WD-40 then plug them back.
